The best Indonesian food in Sydney. We go there at least twice a month and order pretty much the same things. We are happy with grill chicken breast, grill chicken leg, deep fried tofu, grill mushroom wrapped in banana leaf, 2 rice, and eat them with the generous homemade burning chili.
Service is a hit-and-miss affair at this place but it's much faster if you do self-service. Make sure you check out the menu properly, write your order down on the given notepad and won't be long until your food arrives.
Restaurant's interior is also quite run down but still reasonably clean. After all, people come here for the cheap delicious BBQ chicken and their extra hot sambal!
Ayam Goreng has been around for a very long time and its packed out restaurant is a testament to its popularity with uni students and diners on a budget.
Best Indonesian place ever! been there many times for their ayam bakar, char kangkung, and also sup buntot! never ever disappointed whenever I go there for food!! okay.. granted that the chicken is a little burnt sometimes.. but it's still blardy good! haha..
Been to this restaurant many times for its chicken. The chicken is tasty, my favourite, Ayam Bakar Paha (grilled chicket thigh) dip with their black sweet sauce + sambal paste (sauces are on the table). No real big fan of other dishes. Must say, I was rather shocked when I first tried their satay, the peanut sauce felt like melted smooth peanut butter spread. But, I think this is the Indonesian way of making their satay, had a similar satay dish in another Indonesian restaurant (the standard is no where near the satay I had in Malaysia, Malaysian satay was splendid).
Would recommend this restaurant if you like chicken and are keen to try Indonesian cuisine as they serve the authentic Indonesian food. I was recommended to this restaurant by a few Indonesian friends when I was at Uni (that sort of hinted its popularity among the Indonesian).
I have lived in Jakarta for a year or so and I don't agree with most of the comments about the chicken below, its called ayam bakar that means fire burnt chicken so yes thats the style and I do agree the service is poor and slow some times but we are prepared to wait, as on the north shore you pay twice as much for the same style dishes so buck up and take some drinks relax and talk to your friends, I mean this place is full nearly every night that alone says something about their food.
This place has true Indonesian food, hawkers' style. So, if you expect more than that. You're in the wrong place. Btw, the burnt chicken was actually meant to be that way. Lol.... The fried chicken and BBQ chicken are the best feature of this place. Also try Kangkung Cah (the traditional Indonesian vegie stir-fry). You gonna luv them. Also, you guys are supposed to eat the chicken with dark soy sauce and some chilli. That's just how you do it back in Indonesia.
If you're keen, try some delicacies like chicken giblets and chicken liver. You'll be surprised how tasty they are, although they might not be the best food to eat every day. Give it a go! It won't hurt. Petay is also good, if you've never had them before. I'm pretty sure it has some natural antibiotic/alkaloid components in it that would be beneficial to your body. Best place to eat Indonesian style!!
Well what can you expect from a restaurant called Fried Chicken 99? The marinated chicken had potential except that it was overcooked and burnt. The satay was just shocking, dry, flavourless and tough...but wait the peanut sauce that went with it was just abysmal...made from peanut butter with some hoi-sin sauce to add flavour. Never again!
Went for dinner with bunch of friends..had to queue for 10 mins. but its all paid off. The food were great! the chicken was beautiful and the oxtail soup was very nice (a bit salty but still good!) love it love it love it! :)
