Shocking service and attitude towards the customer. We are there for brunch. Lovely day and the cafe was packed, however, they were grossly understaffed and on top of that very rude especially the gentleman in charge. Meals were long time coming, were cold (toast) coffees were made wrongly and to top it all off the bill was just plonked on the table as a sign for us to get lost. Never again!
We walked in for breakfast and were immediately snapped at by the senior staff simply for asking for a seat. We should have walked out then and there.
When he was ready, he finally prepared a table but was sure to express he was reluctant to do so. Another waiter came to take the order and was disappointingly just as cold. We waited 30 minutes for the cooked meals and a further 10 minutes for a bowl of muesli. The waiter scorned when he fumbled a teapot, spilling tea leaves all over the table. To end the whole awful experience, we approached the counter to pay and were told to go and sit back down and wait for the bill.
The food is quite nice but did nothing to disguise the bitter taste left from the arrogant and rude senior staff service. I would definitely not recommend trying this place as it seems if you're not a regular-you are not welcome. You can eat just as well and experience the same beautiful view down the road.
A note on the ambience: very, very noisy but stunning views of Balmoral beach in an elegant restaurant. The food was very good, salmon, barramundi and steak dishes all very tasty. Simple food done superbly. Service was attentive and diligent but not intrusive. A close to perfect lunch experience.
I'm glad I hadn't read the reviews before going. No sign of the maitre d' on our visit. We received friendly service, however, $25 for a salad was way too much. We both ordered salad and the main star of the dish, salt and pepper squid and chicken, were in very short supply and the dressing drowned the vegetables. These salads by the way were our second choices, as two of the specials of the day weren't available. Won't be rushing back.
Love this local cafe - way better than the reviews here suggest. Only downside - it can get noisy. Otherwise charming place with great food and service.
Shocking, absolutely shocking. Waiter was clueless, food was ok, but not for price they charge. Service was slow and sloppy. When going to the toilet, you have to walk past the kitchen, which is disgustingly dirty, there were cockroaches on the walls.
For someone who is only required to take a food order, the waiter was incredibly obnoxious. Probably not his fault, he seemed to just be trying to keep up with the maitre d' who reeked of arrogance. Food was average, bread, fruit and egg, nothing amazing. Overall, a disgraceful presentation by its staff. I have received better service from MacDonalds.
We had brunch here on a Sunday and left upset and appalled at the service. I have never experienced so much unnecessary attitude from people whose job is meant to be hospitality. Snide remarks, being ignored and expensive food are just some of the lovely things you can pay for here.
I am always nicely greeted by the manager (owner?) and never had problems with service. I must admit that last week they had a new waiter who did not really understand the order, and came back to our table twice to confirm, but this is the first time it happened and I have been there a at least 20 times. I think that the breakfast food is very good. I actually prefer their eggs to the Bathers pavilion. A definite good spot for a nice breakkie, would probably go somewhere else for lunch or dinner.
