Avery's Restaurant at the Rydges is quite unique in terms of food quality and value for money. The $28 per head lunch was one of the most disappointing gastronomic experiences I have ever had. The buffet featured an unpalatable grey/green vegetable soup of dubious origin. For my main meal I chose a seafood paella which was little more than a overcooked pumpkin risotto with two tough scallops & two mussels on top.
One of my collegues chose the lamb dish and had to send it back, commenting that it tasted like it was off. A replacement meal wasn't offered, the after dinner coffee tasted instant and the wine (which was advertised as being included in the price) was an additional expense. I won't be back in a hurry.
I was staying in the hotel. This was great and the hotel comes highly recommended and is well worth however, went to Avery's and...um...no deal.
I was there for breakfast and it was without a doubt the worst service I have ever received in any restaurant ever, this includes my local fish and chip shop and burger king. It was late for breakfast about 10.30am however the fact that there was a staff member vacuuming under our table while we were eating was pathetic and the fact we seemed to be a annoyance to the 3 or 4 staff members was also a joke. They served me the worst latte I have ever had and the eggs tasted like they were cooked last week. Pathetic. Hot tip, don't go!!!
