We have visited this restaurant before and it was fun, though our most recent visit was an appalling experience. The waitress clearly did not want children there, she was rude to them and rude to us, they wanted to take our order before we had sat down, they didn't offer the children's menu even though there was one ... and the dreadful service continued. The food is average and the value for money reasonable.
It is probably the most relaxing and welcoming restaurant I've been to. Even though it is located within (on the side) a big hall, but the restaurant itself was quite nicely presented. Their serving size was pretty big, we couldn't finish what we ordered even though the food was very delicious. Service was nice and friendly. Will definitely go back there again!
In my quest to find good German cuisine, we ended up here. This is not a restaurant in a club, it’s a huge hall with a mezzanine where they serve food. So it’s not visually appealing, but it is comfortable. Bar service is provided by the club members and is a bit hit and miss, don’t ask for fancy mixed drinks, but for staples like beer, pre-mixed spirits, wine and of course, schnapps. So you come here to eat, not to make love over dinner.
There were 4 of us so we managed a reasonable selection off the menu. Entrees, Neuberger (selection of sausages with sauerkraut), crumbed fried emmental and a dumpling soup all around the $10- mark. Everyone was pleased with their selections. Mains, 2 pork knuckles and a house (roast pork) platter all served with more sauerkraut and bread balls, and a schnitzel.
All the meals were average $18- and were nice, the knuckles were a tad dry, while the schnitzel as definitely a cut above the average. The bread balls failed to please, mash would have been perfect. And breaking with tradition, we all had desert @ $6.50 a piece, amazing how many different names you can call ice-cream + cream, but the chocolate pancakes seemed to be a hit.
While this is definitely worth a visit, and we all enjoyed our meals, either German food is pretty bland (which I’ve been reliably told is the case) or I haven’t achieved my quest.
Located deep in Frenchs Forest in what feels like a community hall. As for the food, this place serves HUGE portions. No one in our group of 5 could finish our meals. Having lived in Austria and Germany for a while, I was pleased with the authenticity of the food. We had the Heisse Liebe mit Eis (Hot Love with Ice cream) dessert and it was delicious.
I had to change the booking as a few people couldn't make it and the lady didn't make a fuss about it. The place wasn't crowded and staff are very friendly. Will go back again.
As a lover of European food, I have been there many times over the years. Food is sort of ok, considering the prices but the chefs have changed several times and the one they have at the moment is not one of the best. Great place to go if you have kids as there is plenty of room for them to play. Beware of the sparkling Mineral water as I think they refill the bottles as the seal is always broken.
The Austrian Club is a hidden gem. The prices are very resonable, the food is always delicious and the portions are quite large. The drinks are very cheap with a lot to choose from (the German wine is really nice)and the service and the atmosphere is very welcoming!
We love the Austrian club. Authentic Austrian food such as pork knuckle with sauerkraut, sausage with sauerkraut, strudel and lots of 'really difficult to find in Australia' beer. I think the hours are limited so it would pay to call.
We were there on a sunday for lunch. The food was great and very authentic, the ambience is not great but still ok. They have a big car park and lots of space for kids to play. Staff was friendly. Main meals are between $16 and $25, try the house platter. We will definitely go there again.
My family really enjoys this restaurant. It has home-style Austrian cooking with large portions and simple flavours. Just watch out for their infamous Vension night! You might as well stay at home rather than go to that.
