Had a great night out with some of my friends at the Austrian Schnitzelhaus Restaurant. The staff was super friendly and attentive, suggested me the alcoholic Ginger Beer which was a great catch. The entrees have been served within minutes. Wow! Not to forget the Camembert is a must!

I had a Schnitzel for my main. It was delicious, however, I think it's slightly overprized. But then again, the portion size is massive. Couldn't even finish everything though I was starving when I came in. But I still had space for some dessert. Also I was really surprised how busy the place was considering it was a Thursday night. It was packed and the noise level really high.

All in all it's a place I would recommend to everyone who is interested in German cuisine. Go and try it out and have a laugh with the entertaining staff!

Went there with a friend on a Thursday night, there were quite a few people there, it had a cosy ambience, the food was good comfort food, I had the mushroom schnitzel, which I really enjoyed, garlic bread was very ordinary. Service was good. The only down side is that its not BYO, having said that I will still go again.

Lovely sandstone building - walked in expecting big things. The entree was good veal meatballs and garlic bread although garnish looked like it had seen better days. The mains - vienna veal schnitzel was nice and abundant but nothing out of the ordinary. The side of potatoes were a bit soggy. The other main of Italian Schnitzel was a bit weird like an omlette coating of the schnitzel. The apple strudel was ok but the serve of ice cream was a bit scrimpy. The cream on the vienna coffee and with the strudel was mock cream not real whipped cream which was a bit watery. The atmosphere was happy and lively. The service wasn't great and in particular when time to pay we headed up to the register and who I assume was the head waiter looked at us with a complete lack of enthusiam, warmth or joy. She was the antithesis of a friendly and warm maitre d.

Pretty good Schnitzels and a great selection of European beers, our host Rudy came out and gave us a complimentary schnapps at the end of the meal and had one with us, a very nice touch, and service was great even though a very busy Friday night.

Went in for the schnitzel challenge so we were paying a good amount of money as there were 4 of us doing the challenge and 3 just going for a normal meal. From the word go, just to book a table we got the lecture about not being late and that they had our credit card details and would be liable if we turned up late. When we got there a couple of the staff members were nice but the guy that runs the place was the rudest person I have ever been served by.

We arrived a little bit late for our booking but the 3 of us who were not doing the challenge ordered straight away. We waited about 40 minutes for our meals before asking the senior staff to check where they were up to, so rather than just telling us that he would look into it, we got the third degree about being late and so we could wait and it is first in first serve. Except that after he said this, two tables who came in 20 minutes after us all got their meals and were eating them before ours were served.

We were not asked once if we were enjoying our meals and I just couldn't believe how rude the senior staff of this place was throughout the night. It seemed he was happy to pick and choose who he was polite too just because he gets heaps of business. We have been to this place once before and were very shocked at how bad their customer service is and how much they don't care about their customers until it comes to paying the bill, no surprise there.

I would not go back as I do not want to give the senior staff another cent until she learns some manners.

We live on the northern beaches and came across this place by accident and boy are we glad we did. Great service and food, we will definitely be back. We need a restaurant like this closer to home please.

We had a funfilled night, although we came on a very busy night, little loud, the food was better than we had on our recent trip to Austria and the service fast and friendly too, only bad thing you tend to over eat. Keep it up and we will see you again soon.

Reasonably fresh food competently cooked but somewhat commercialised for the local market. But then the unforgivable, the only bread is Garlic Bread.

The Austrian Schnitzelhaus is probably not the best German/Austrian restaurant in Sydney (La Bohème in Balmain takes that title for my money). That said, this restaurant keeps the punters happy because for a Sunday night, the place was moderately busy. A quick look across Victoria Rd at neighbouring restaurants revealed scant numbers.

The menu offers solid if unspectacular fare. Our schnitzels were well cooked although the apple strudel was fairly ordinary. Value for money and Middle European restaurants rarely share the same bed and the Schnitzelhaus needs to try harder in this area for what it offers. Top marks for service as I arrived with my wife and son without a booking and 20 minutes before opening time and were welcomed in.

Setup: 6 people, lunch 9Apr11, Schnitzel platter for 2 + Sausage special + Garlic Bread + Austrian Salad

Food: authentic austrian/german food; very fresh and tasty. the austrian beer was a treat. couldn;t fault anything in the food.

Ambience: though on Victoria road, we could hardly notice. the restaurant is essentially a house converted into an eatery with nice wood features, old pictures frames on the way to the toilet upstairs... really felt transported.

Service: it was a 1 man show, very dynamic and efficient; though you feel a little rough on the edges (perhaps because he had no help).

Value: is very good after the 25% discount using Entertainment book card; total was $108 before discount.
