Nice looking pub, but the service at the bistro was woeful. After waiting 45 minutes for our order to arrive, we had to cancel as we simply couldn't wait any longer and cancelled the order, only to have the bar staff challenge us and be generally very rude. I was amazed, if anything I expected an apology. Service was disorganized, abusive and second rate, especially given that this bistro is charging over $30 for mains. The bar staff, should not be in a customer facing role.
I have to say the aussie youth is awesome. It is a work local for me therefore I eat lunch there on a regular basis. I had the salmon today and it was worth every cent. My meal was healthy yet very tasty.
The food is always good maybe abit pricey for some but the quality and value is worth it. The menu is changed regularly and the chief keeps the menu interesting.
I remember the days when aussie youth was a humble corner pub, with a relaxing atmosphere and friendly waitstaff (two of whom are my mates) and has now turned into some wannabe artsy cafe pub thing with outrageous prices and rude staff. I have been three times since they did the changeover (renovations and ownership) and it SUCKS now, take it from me. Unless you are a yuppy, in which case you will feel right at home.
Been here lots of times for lunch and dinner. I also love the beef and guiness pie, but all of the food is great. Bar has a good feel to it, but I love the courtyard out the back on a balmy summer evening. Better to book if there are more than a couple of you wanting space in the restaurant as it's quite small but popular.
The Aussie Youth is our work local and we go here to eat and/or drink once a week. There are other pubs in the area but this is our pick. It's really great, run by a good bunch of people. People enjoy their meals 90% of the time which is a good hit rate so worth recommending for lunch or dinner!
The beef and guiness pie is a favourite especially in chilly weather. The steak sandwich with pesto and grilled veg is good. A complaint is the fried food especially the fish and chips which is pale and a bit underdone. Our solution - we ask for it "well done"! The ambience of the whole pub is lovely since the refit a couple of years ago. Further improvements to seating/lighting in the Nude bar in recent months mean it's an opulent and cosy place to have a drink.
This place was great. The name tends to indicate it's a backpacker joint but not at all. The food was excellent - there were 25 of us and everyone had meal envy for everyone else's dish - it all looked and tasted fab. Only drawback was the heat in this heritage attic-type loft we were put in - while it was lovely because of the "oldness" of it, there was no ventilation and we were all sweating like mad.
Would go back if I didn't sit there. And a name change would do it justice.
Food and service are fantastic and great value for money. I recently had my 40th birthday party in the Nude bar upstairs and had the time of my life. All of my guests are still raving about it. Thanks for making my birthday such a memorable one.
