Parking Suggestions
On street parking is available nearby, however many choose to park in the nearby Broadway Shopping Centre, which offers up to three hours of free parking.
A lovely old heritage pub, the 'Aussie Youth' was built in 1857 and boasts a real traditional pub feel.
Through the English-style front bar you will find a beautiful old restaurant that was once the Hotel's stables. There is also a sunny Courtyard adjacent to the Restaurant, perfect for both dining and drinking.

Not sure why given what they charge for a basic Aus beer. Hardly any outdoor seating, might be nice on a cold winters day as the decor is nice but on a nice summers day, you have to fight for the two dodgy cheap tables on the side of the road and hold your breathe with all the smokers. Needs to open it up a bit (had a bit of that stale beer smell) and hire some staff that seem to be interested.

A great little pub tucked away behind Broadway. A great place for a beer and a game of jenga on a Saturday afternoon. Has a good mix of quality pub food, but also has the option of a more expensive dining experience out the back. The small enclosed courtyard is a great spot in summer.

I had my 30th birthday in 'The Loft' on the weekend. I squashed in 29 people. The area can comfortably accommodate 20-27 seated, but would be much more spacious and ideal for a crowd of 16-20 (guests). Service was attentive and efficient. Wait staff miraculously doubled during the serving of our courses then reverted back to the 2 staff when meals concluded. Drinks were very good. Food was great for the size of my party. The Chocolate, butterscotch and peanut butter parfait is sublime. Every lucky guest who ordered it couldn't stop talking about it! My guests were very happy. There was two minor hiccups during the night.
One was that a guest received their entree late. Then during desserts, 2 guests were not approached, though by then we were pretty drunk and guests were moving about constantly which probably confused the staff. The room was beautiful and cosy (not suitable for those who have mobility problems), yet the true gem of the night was the brilliant waitstaff. I was so impressed by their professionalism. Please don't let the name of the restaurant dissuade you. Not my choice for an average meal, but for large numbers, few restaurants can pull off such a great experience.

We ate in the front bar which was fine. The food was really enjoyable and they make a mean bloody mary. Service is slow-only one of the staff members seemed to be switched on but if you're not in a hurry that's fine. Roast of the day on a Sunday was very popular for good reason and the pizza was nice and crispy. Spend a little or a lot.

Beautiful bistro pub food. Have eaten here 6 or 7 times and had different things nearly every time, and have enjoyed it each time. Menu seems to change every few months, so pub standards stick around, but there are seasonal dishes as well. Restaurant has a cozy atmosphere, good for a date or birthday. Menu is teh same in the restaurant so there is causual option as well.

I ate in the AYH with my girlfriend who was treating me to my birthday. It was not a disappointment. We had a pre dinner drink in the bar (Vale Ale... very nice) and plenty of staff meant no wait.
We ate in the Courtyard restaurant through the back and it was very nice surroundings. I had the duck hash cake for entree and it was very good. This was followed by a perfectly cooked medium rare fillet steak. The girl had the scallops followed by the spagettini. We recommend the 3 pigs wine! Highly recommended and we will be back.

The pub is great but falls short on the food side of things. It is more of a classy face local pub bistro with overpriced mediocre food. I've had steaks for under $10 that I'll happily choose over the steak selections at the Australian Youth Hotel. That may sound harsh but if you're paying over $30 for steak with French fries and sauce, your expectations are high.
Everything was loaded with salt, including the baby spinach salad which had crunchy chunks of rock salt, the bacon and cheese in the salad is salty enough, don't add more. Lay off the salt, it's on the tables.
The entry to the pubs men's bathroom is located in the middle of the restaurant, which is a major design flaw. Drunken men walked by our table every few seconds. Red wine jus was beautiful. Service is good. I can't say I'll be coming back to the restaurant, but I'll happily have a drink there.

We had a fantastic lunch at the restaurant recently. The great chacuterie platter included rabbit terine, pate, meats, pickled veggies and chutney. Great selection of reasonably priced wines. The rose washed down the platter very well. We also had hand made gnocci; a pumpkin, fetta and lamb salad. Servings are generous given the rich food. Coffee was good too. Best gastro pub in ultimo / glebe area.

This pub was my favourite local for a couple of years recently. I particularly enjoyed the happy hour that started during the financial crisis. Dubbed 'the happy hour we had to have' (with an image of Keating for added historical reference), it would end only when the recession did. I believe it's been such a winner with the locals that they've continued it to this day: $5 pints of anything on tap between 3 pm and 6 pm, 7 days a week, and that includes Coopers Pale, Squire Amber Ale, St Arneau Pilsner and Guinness.
The food is good, although it could do with a wider selection. But the real stand-out is the beef and guinness pie, and I've had several now. I can't vouch for the service in the Stables restaurant section, as I tend to eat my meal either in the courtyard or in the front bar, but the service there is friendly and professional.
Also notable is the Youth's upstairs function rooms, called 'nude', with three separate areas and a bar. I've been to several functions here and hosted one of my own, and I was very pleased. The walls, adorned with hundreds of oil paintings of nude women, and the leather furniture, give this area a boudoir feel.
It's a shame I've moved, I felt privileged to call the Youth my local.

Wonderful pub with olde worlde English interior, log fires, great beers (Squires, Coopers, McClaren Vale Ale, others), great food, service, you can eat in sunny beer garden, restaurant, or huge sofas in the bar. Sunday lunch roast to die for. Was Festival of Sydney Eating participant with great Rabbit and Crayfish Pie. Weird name, I think a lot of people would see Australian Youth Hotel and hit Next, they need to add in "Colonial Goldminers Bar" or something to leverage the historic ambience. Lots of interesting old historic and sports pictures/newspapers/posters on the wall. Up there with the Lord Dudley, and the Lord Nelson.
