Food was great. Service that my group received personally was terrible. I found the waiters had the attitude that would be found in most Chinese restaurants: sit eat and get out. Totally not what I would have expected to find in a Greece restaurant. And we didn't have a small group either, our group of 26 people were there to celebrate a birthday.
There was a serious lack of service available, having to try to flag down waiters who do not respond is not a fun thing to be doing. And when a waiter finally came up, they were reluctant to actually do some sort of service. I personally found some of the waiters pushy and impatient.
Mains were up to standard, if I were overlook the fact that he got a few orders wrong, then charged us for extra dishes to make up for his mistakes. Also, he had completely overlooked my own order, and made no apology for his mistake (it was his mistake because he did indeed have my order down on the tab).
The waiters were also all over the place when they were clearing up the table. Without so much as an "excuse me" they pushed my chair into the table in order to get past. Had they just asked me, I would have been more than happy to move my chair in, rather than suffer a piece of cutlery down my throat.
My group almost ended up walking out when upon cutting the cake, the waiter was "murdering the birthday cake we had asked him to cut for us." At first he had refused. Then in an act of either frustration or impatience, he grabbed the cake, stabs it with a fork and start ripping pieces off it. I think that I could have done a cleaner job than him. There was bits of cake all over the tablecloth, and the waiter picked up the fallen bits of cake, put it back on the plate, and starts serving it again. Talk about lack of food hygiene!!!
So in closing, I must say that on this particular night, I have had a bad experience at the restaurant. My concern is mainly due to service, and that detracted from what I thought was to be quality food at a reasonable price. I don't think I will be dining there anytime soon if they are unable to clean up their lack of service act.
Great looking place, well decked out in an art deco sort of building. Clean with a retro feel. Service is adequate, surely no one should expect 5 star at these prices, and the size of the serving...no one should leave the place feeling hungry.
We took the team of 20 there for lunch today and while were generally happy with the food we found the service left a lot to be desired. We had the very reasonably priced banquet which was generous with dips, salad, dolmades, savoury pastries, calamari, lovely slow cooked lamb, moussaka and dessert all for $32. However, from the outset the service was odd with constant checking of our numbers and lots of service staff talking over us trying to clarify pretty basic requests like our water order.
I also almost copped a chipped tooth when a waiter set down a plate of salad on my wine glass as I was drinking. It then culminated in an angry approach from another customer along with a staff member implying we had taken another group's booking. Turns out there was two bookings for the large bank we work for (I guess that will happen when you are in the financial district and we have 9000 staff in the CBD) and our event co-ordinator was pretty much harrassed about exactly when she booked.
I really can't understand how their failure to keep the bookings straight was our fault, as I doubt that rogue gangs of 20+ plus people roam the CBD and pretend they have bookings in places they don't, but anyway, once that was sorted out it was a good meal. My advice is to quote your DOB, your drivers licence number and your mother's maiden name when making a booking... hopefully that will help them remember which group you represent when you roll up and you can enjoy the conversation and food without all the carry on!
I can't believe that anyone has left this restaurant hungry as I've always left with takeaway and a very full stomach. Been here several times and always found the food to be fabulous, hearty Greek cuisine and the service to be just right. A firm favourite for departmental lunches and any other occasion that I happen to be in the city.
On a friday night for birthday dinner with a large group of friends, 2 of our friends ordered chicken and lamb souvlaki as a main and were surprised to receive a entree size portion. Both dissatisfied with the food and still hungry, informed the waiter. The waiter informed us that due to the new kitchen staff, the portions are small. The waiter first offered a complimentary meal and then informed our friends that they have to pay $5 for an extra meal.
Even though the staff was requested, we were informed by the waiter that one has left for the night and another is too busy watching TV to speak to us. The waiter was rude and informed us he didn't care if we were not happy with the food. After much debate we managed to get the bottle of wine complimentary.
Though I have been to this restaurent 3 other times with good food and service, after this bad service I would not reccommend eating here!!!Many other Greek restaurents in Sydney provide the friendly Greek service they are renowned for.
I went here whilst on holidays for lunch all 3 days. Both the waiters that served us Nicko & George left us with lasting fond memories. We have photos with them to prove it. True Greek hospitality. They were warm and caring, and very attentive. The food was amazing with huge servings we couldn't get through it all. Will go next time I am in Sydney & the time again & the time again.
First time to a Greek restaurant and it was amazing. The portion was huge, and never order another side salad as almost every meal has come with Greek salad.
Main orders came surprisingly quick, was there a 8-arm chef in the kitchen or what?? The waiter recommended roast lamb as it is the trademark of the restaurant, perhaps, in my next visit.
I went here for a work function and overall it's a quite unique place to visit and eat. It was midweek the place was fairly full and the food portions are amazing. The lamb has that unique lemon flavouring I used to taste many years ago. I am not Greek so I can't compare to home cooking but overall the taste was honest and not too salty which can happen with Greek Cuisine and also not so one dimensional menu..a little varied...attentive polite staff.
The food was good but the service was very poor. They brought out the mains before everyone got an entree. They also left a number of people waiting for a fair while before they got their mains.
Great fun to be had with a group of friends. Difficult to leave this place without a full stomach! Brought back great memories of trips to Athens in years gone by.
