Have been to The Athenian several times and always had a lovely meal and certainly good value for money. Unfortunately, our last experience was not a good one and we certainly won't be returning.

The food was disappointing, I had the Athenian Special and it appeared the quality of the lamb was not up to their normal standard. I would rather pay more for good quality rather than having quality comprised to keep prices the same.

As for the staff, they are mostly old and tired and really don't appear to want to be there. Two of the waiters (one of which has been there for years) had an argument in front of customers.

Overall, sadly not a pleasant experience!

My 3rd time at this restaurant, once with 15 people, then 2 people. Each time very good service, food. Meal and alochol prices are competitive for CBD.
It is greek so you should understand Greek food!. Highly recommended.

Terrible people. Had some people coming late when I booked for a Team Lunch. Said if they don't come had to pay 100 bucks for the seat. Also they had to be seated separately if they were coming late. Very rude service from 1 of the female managers. She even threatened 1 of the nice waiters who put our seat together with the people who were late and I quote "I will Kill you". Her rudeness prompted us to leave shortly after. Didn't even get to try the food unfortunately.

Had lunch here recently with some buddies. Being Greek, I am a harsh critic of Greek restaurants. The food has to be as good and as authentic as my mum's! I was surprised! This place not only had great food but also excellent service to top it off!

It is certainly not a "taverna" style. It is more fine dining. Very nice place for a business lunch, romantic dinner or just a get together with friends. I had a top time and I will certainly go back with my wife. Definite "thumbs up".

Awful meal tonight. Some elements could only be described as 'slop'. Most things over cooked. It is the week leading up to Christmas, but even so this was an overpriced, disappointed, barely digestible meal. Will Never go there again.

The food was good, although they only had one vegetarian option available. They were quite abrupt and clearly wanted to get you in and out as fast as possible. The tables were all very close together.

One waiter spilt a guest's dinner on him and them argued with him about it. The owner came out and offered to pay for his dry cleaning but doesn't really cover the insult, they didn't offer to dock the bill or anything. Heard good things about this place but really didn't think it was all that.

Will never go back. I went to this restaurant for a farewell lunch with work colleagues. I ordered a grilled rump steak cooked medium. My steak came and it was very thin, very well done and very tough. I told our waiter that it was well done and he insisted that he told to cook it medium. After a lot of explaining he took my plate away only to come back a few seconds later to insist to me that the chef said it was medium. He was even trying to point out the pink bits to me which were non-existent.

I was stunned with the attitude so I said not to worry but made it clear I was not paying for it. Towards the end of my colleagues' meal the waiter came back to tell me the chef will cook me a new piece of steak and will cook it medium. I refused it, when the plates were cleared the waiter came back to me again to ask if I want him to put the meat in a takeaway container as I will have to pay for it anyway. I said no and told him what makes him think I will eat the steak later when I couldn't even eat it now.

We then asked for the senior staff who never came but another waiter told us that we don't have to pay for the steak. I've never been to a supposedly reasonable restaurant and get such bad attitude and bad service. The least the senior staff could have done is come to our table and apologise. If ever there was a restaurant from hell this is it. I wouldn't even go near the place. I wanted to leave straight away before the others started eating but I felt bad for the person who was leaving. It was a nightmare of an experience.

Ate early on a Sat night and was first in but filled up later. This is a classic Sydney restaurant in the old style with well separated tables, suited waiters and the huge room with its high ceilings handles any noise well. We started with entrees of Haloumi and savoury triangles and then mains of Souvlaki and my wonderfully named Stuffed Dish, which was a mix of stuffed capsicum, zucchini, cabbage and tomato.

All the food was very tasty and very generous portions. I left half of mine I'm sad to say. This place is the complete opposite of the trendy little diners appearing today but its not snobbish or expensive so worth a go if you like greek food.

I would recommend trying their moussaka. Absolutely fantastic! The food and service was of a high standard.
