You get what you pay for guys! After seeing a few bad reviews on here I feel I need to share my experience of this restaurant. It is cheap, cheerful, and a good prelude to a good night out! I have taken a group of 6 people here and we have all left feeling satisfied for under $60 in total! So cheap! And very tasty food. Ok, it's not the finest quality japanese but it is tasty and fresh! And Quick!
This place is newtown all over, you can go here any friday or saturday night and the place will be buzzing but you can still get a table, you can get quick service, BYO, and decent fresh food at a great price, can't complain!

No good. Food is cheap, prepared, comes straight out of the fridge. Bad quality sushi, poor curry. This is not Japanese food, its a chinese version of it, a cheap chinese knock off version. You'll get better food at a shopping centre.
After eating there for dinner the two of us felt like going to eat somewhere else just so we didn't feel so ripped off.

The table is sticky. If you happen to order a sakae, make sure you check the inside of the bottle and see if it has been cleaned properly. I could see yellow sticky grease that has not been cleaned for about few years. That made me really sick.
The rice of sushi roll is soaky and I can tell definitely they don't know how to make a proper sushi roll.
Soft shell Crab I ordered was was overcooked. I feel it's a combination of Chinese and japanese food. It was oily too. Sizzling chicken on hot plate is also fusion type of chinese and japanese, tasted too oily.
If you want Japanese food, this is not the right place. It's more of chinese + japanese. I didn't finish the food and got out there quickly, as I felt sick.
I really had to complain about the uncle sake bottle at least, he didn't charge fee for sake after he sees the bottle.

A friend took me to asakusa for the first time about a year ago, and I have been back many many times since. Every time I've been I have one of the amazingly cheap bento boxes. You get so much for $14 - for what you pay, it's exceptional value, the food is flavorsome and fresh - there are some haters out there, but you can't except kobe jones quality sushi for this price. Quality of service can vary but generally the staff are fairly attentive and I've never waited more than 20 mins for a meal, even on a busy saturday night.

Asakusa is a great place to eat if you're after some simple Japanese that's easy on the wallet. This place is sooo cheap for what you get, so really you can't be expecting revolutionary Japanese but it's amazing for what you pay. Every time I've been the little grandma has been sitting near the register folding her very own gyoza which I think is great! The food is generous and the menu is extensive, I always get a different bento box (such good value) and the food is always really tasty.

This place is quite sad. The tables were sticky and the place does not look/feel/smell clean at all. We had 2 tables put together and there was food stuck between the tables. The food was mediocre - Unagi sushi was big but is filled with rice and very little unagi. My children had the teriyaki chicken dinner box but the staff forgot the miso. We didn't ask for it since we wanted to be out of there.

Great Japanese food and good value for the quality received. It did go downhill a bit about a year ago but I think the owners realised and have increased the quality again.

We must have got here on a good night, kids and me stumbled in on a whim, cheap yummy and a fun experience for the kids to try the dinner box and share. Staff appeared when you called them not when they wanted to move you on.

My boyfriend and I came here for a quick dinner last night before heading out. I have only had take-away sushi rolls from here prior to this, and had found those to be so-so. We only came here because the sushi train closer to the station was very full!
We were disappointed. We ordered a variety of hand rolls, miso soup and some mini sushi. We weren't expecting anything fantastic, but were still disappointed! We found the chicken in the hand rolls to be extremely dry and rather tough. The miso was very strong and fishy, as if it was from the bottom of the tureen. The cucumber mini rolls tasted far from fresh.
The service left a lot to be desired. Definitely not $28 worth. Don Don on Oxford st make similar hand rolls for half the price but double the quality. We won't be back.

I actually didn't mind this place. You can't come here expecting to get the finest Japanese food, I mean, look at the prices. I had a cheap meal here and I was impressed by the size of the servings and quality of the ingredients for what you pay. The service is extremely fast but the wait staff are a little inattentive. My meal was satisfying but I wished there was a higher ratio of vegetables in my meal.
I will be back if I'm in the area and need a cheap feed.
