Simply the worst restaurant in Sydney. Friday night and only 5 patrons is an omen I should have listened to. The staff were inept and pretentious. The interior looked like a galaxy of 90's bad taste without the irony. The food was average at best with pasta that tasted like it was made from a jar of poorly pre-made sauce. The location is fantastic - shame it is under utilised.
I went for a romantic night but was suprised to find we were the only ones in the restaurant on a Saturday night. They didn't have the wine I wished to have as well as the next 4 I asked for. The food was good but the portions were small and the strange feeling of being the only patrons that evening kept us a bit skeptical. The place has a "too" sexy feel to it and the 'all black' washrooms are crazy, more what you'd expect at a venue with a red light outside the door. A waitress wearing a short skirt served us and she was friendly enough but not the kind of waitress you expect in a fine restaurant. I was disappointed as their internet page convinced me to expect something more. The place is so strange, as if you are in a restaurant in Moscow. Anyway, find out for yourself if you don't believe me. Might be a good place for a late drink...but underlying the whole theme is that there is something strange about this place...you just can't quite put your finger on it.
Never say never again, I did and friends "in the know" took me back for my last visit to Arcardi Restaurant. As with my last visit the word disappointment does not do it justice.
With his quiet confidence, the ever Professional James, (formerly from The Tasting Room and Akaki's) perfectly executed table service with flair and an extensive knowledge of wine. It was in this area alone, Arcardi Restaurant lived up to its name.
The food was in a word was woeful. Disregard the bill of fare, poorly executed Pub food should never demand prices in this range. Pre-dinner cocktails were mixed by the numbers and tasted accordingly. In short I will (never), most likely not return to this venue.
I love this place. I am a regular here, always dine and have drinks here. Food is different, but it is tasty. Drinks are the best. I even tried their Russian Vodkas, that was an experience. Arcardi rocks, no matter what the others say, but everyone's taste is different.
This place rocks. Food amazing, service is 100%. I have never been there, but once I was invited to me friend's B'day and since than I am a regular customer there. I just love going there. It is so cool and this place makes you feel special. Go and see!
As mentioned in previous reviews .. I have to agree that the decor and service is definitely Arcardi's biggest plus. It was a quiet night so I'm not sure how they fair when it gets crowded. But James did an excellent job.. he knew their wine and food inside out ...and he's also very good at reading what the customer wants (eg. I had taken a date there and James service was personal enough to make you feel like a VIP while still left you alone enough ..so you can get on with the 'business at hand'. He even dimmed the lights as the night got on.)
Food wise ..we tried the degustation menu. The taste was sort of hit and miss between the courses. The soup at the start and the creme brulee at the end for some reason impressed me the most.
The quail egg and the salmon wrap was also pretty 'melt in the mouth' delish. THe kingfish... was a tad tough.. (you 'd probably need a steak knife to slice that baby).
It is not the cheapest of places..but at Arcardi you're paying for more than just the food.. but the whole dining experience.
We went here on a girl's night out because we'd heard that the cocktails were excellent - and they are! The atmosphere and decor are brilliant - understated, classy and cosy - we sat by the fire sipping our pre-dinner cocktails.

The service is excellent - the waiters were very attentive and treated us like VIPs. The big let down was the food - perhaps close to the worst I've tasted which was such a shame. The main portions were all tiny - smaller than entree size, the pork glazed with honey was so sweet it was like eating pancakes and the lamb arrived (very small portion) on a bed of brown mush - unfortunately the taste of the food was as unappetising as it looked. My friend had the prawns for main (4 prawns with some salad) Hardly enough to satisfy even the smallest appetite! The bread and butter was nice (and plentiful) and we received complimentary soup (which was fairly nice) The meals didn't arrive together either - with our side orders of green beans and potatos arriving after we'd finished our mains.
We all decided to find somewhere else for dessert (even though we were really hungry and had been planning to eat dessert there) Overall, the experience of dining there was great - they just need a new chef.
