Nothing to see here. This place is definitely not about decor but a fast sit, eat and leave atmosphere. For a weekday lunch this place was crowded. The smell of the pho whizzing pass you was ever so tempting.
For a quick bite we had the crispy quails which was perfectly fried with no oily residue and once the bones were completely cleaned we tucked into our raw beef pho. Proper Vietnamese basil was used and with fresh chili and a squeeze of lemon, I was extremely satisfied with this simple dish. A great and authentic place to eat.
Been going here for years, on average at least once a week. I know, I am a pho addict! That must be the Vietnamese blood in me. I love my noodle soups, and a good bowl of pho always hits the spot.
I've been to many pho restaurants and this is by far the tastiest with fresh ingredients. It is a great place for a quick and easy meal, very very casual. Could be in and out in 20 mins, depending on how quick you eat. Staff are very efficient but lack social skills, almost like robots. Restaurant is big, probably seats over 200 people and is clean and modern looking compared to some other Vietnamese restaurants. Very over priced compared to what you would pay in Cabramatta or even at one of their competitors down the road, but they still seem to get the customers, even after the recent price rise from $10.70 to $12 for a medium bowl of rare beef noodle soup.
It was cold last night and we were driving around Surry hills and Ashfield looking for a place to warm ourselves with warm hearty meals. Then it came into my mind pho Anh at bankstown. Great place big portions best pho I've had in ages. I ordered the beef combo and my other half order chicken as she dose not eat beef. But as soon as the food came out I found her eating my beef soup and noodles to my amazement. We will be coming back.
Love vietnamese pho, especially on cold winter nights. A top pho restaurant. Speedy service. Attentive waiters. Tasty pho, the best I ever tasted so far. Reasonably priced (yes, cheaper elsewhere but not as tasty/good). We drive 45 minutes to this restaurant once every fortnight (Sunday night - quiet). I always order no.10 (on the menu) - combination pho.
Also, try the satay sauce, dip the meat in the sauce, oh yum!! They don't have english menu displayed, so you must ask the waiter for english menu. A clean restaurant and toilet! (compared to other vietnamese restaurants in cabramatta or bankstown).
Tastiest pho I've ever tasted. Service is quick but don't expect a smile!! ship them in ship them out attitude. Portions are good but charging $3 for an extra bowl for sharing should be frowned at! Good place to go for a quick and tasty lunch.
Visited several times over the past 2-3 years. The pho is tastier than the other ones I've tried at other Bankstown and Eastwood. Soup has always been rich and tasty. An restaurant charges unreasonably for a small bowl of pho and for an empty bowl. I usually share a big bowl of pho with a pal instead, which is enough for 2 moderately-hungry people!
This place has gotten more expensive over the year and the Pho is not all that great. I mean $10 for a bowl of Pho in the suburb you expect to pay this maybe in the city. I think they must have changed management. The Pho are sometimes either too salty or too bland.
Let me start by saying I am not Vietnamese. Pho is one of my favourite dishes, in fact you could call me a bit of a zealous over-indulger when it comes to Pho I even travelled to Vietnam last year and had Pho almost 12+ times a day from Hanoi all the way down to Ben Tre (the bowls are much smaller over there) it was interesting to see each different regions take on the soup.
To contract an earlier review Pho An's soup resembles more of the southern aniseed flavour as opposed to the ginger north. My opinion of what was a great pho transcended upon my return. I had been visiting Pho An since it resided in its former glory a few blocks down more than 8 years ago and quite frankly to repeat another reviewer the bowl size has gone smaller and the price has skyrocketed.
One of the defining values of a good Pho is its value for money, something that seems to have been exorbitantly ruined at Pho An over the years. As much as I am negative, Pho An's ability to churn out a bowl of Pho that is easily more taste satisfying than 90% other places is respectable. The latter half resides in the multitude of Vietnamese restaurants that reside in Cabramatta and Canely vale.
Nowadays to assuage my appetite for Pho I tend to visit Pho Phung at Cabramatta. IMHO cheaper and much tastier than the overly hyped Pho An.
Ambience resembles more of a fast food chain than an intimate restaurant, but with the sterile decor comes the speed of a chain. Given that the only food item on the menu is Pho something that you would expect.
P.S Ever wondered what the secret ingredient they put in at Pho An that keeps the punters coming back? its dried Silk Worm, don't believe me? check out the Vietnamese edition of Food Safari (SBS program).
This is the best place for Pho in Sydney. Some might complain about the limited menu, but this is what they specialise in - PHO. They do only that & they do it well.. it's almost like the Pho is on a conveyor belt, it comes out that quick.
The meat is the best I've ever tasted in Pho.. it is very lean & tender. The soup is never oily. You try some other places and you get meat that got fat & tendons hanging off it & oil floating on the top. This is definitely THE place for Pho!! And oh yeah - 1st asian restaurant I've come across that has good CLEAN bathrooms!
