UPDATE - I don't know what partnership disasters befell the proprietors but Ambrozi is no longer recognisable as a restaurant. There is no order to seating or service and the food is, I want to be charitable but I can't. My immediate urge after being seated was to leave. And that would have been Do NOt Eat Here. Club management need to take action to fix.
Ambrozi has taken on where Brayz left off, but I have to warn you - the jury is out on deciding if this is close to what Brayz was.
The restaurant is located in the Ryde Bowling Club which does detract from the ambience. As the service counter services both, don't get caught out like we did ordering from the wrong menu (one for the club, one for the restaurant).
Started with the anti-pasto (wrong menu) which was terrific @ $12. Then the trouble started - waitress brought us our mains ( steak @ $12- off the wrong menu), saying that due to a mix-up, our entrees would be coming out later ( right menu).
So we got out salt and pepper squid and braised king prawns all together - 4 plates on a small table. We must have looked like right gluttons. No dispute with the quality of food which was terrific. But it looks like the new managers are trying desperately to fix something which wasn't broke. And then to get lied too about the mix up all without an apology is a let down. And the prices on the (right) menu are what you'd expect to pay in a well appointed stand alone establishment. I'll wait for other reviews before returning.
Ambrozi has taken on where Brayz left off. But the jury is out whether it is capable of taking on where Brayz left off. Interesting how much difference people make because it's same premises, same chef. But the incumbent management seem to be trying too hard to fix something that was far from broke.
Keen to see what a change of name meant, my partner and I entered without trepidation. Because I was ravenous, the young waitress took our order at the counter and escorted us to our table. We started with an antipasto for $12, slated squid and king prawns for entrees $12 and $14 and a steak for mains @ $13- each. The antipasto was really nice. But this is where it all went down hill - our steaks arrived and we were informed that a 'mix up' had occurred in the kitchen.
No apology, just a table full of plates. The entrees were delectable but with no time to digest, the steaks while brilliantly cooked were a struggle. I mentioned this to the nice lady who presented herself as the manageress who pointed out that we'd mixed up the club menu with the restaurant menu (one is dearer than the other). I'm the customer, if I did the wrong thing, it should have been pointed out at the time of ordering, not being penalised with a food dump.
The dining experience is not just about the food. I'm reluctant to go back before I read a whole bunch of positive reports.
