I attended Ambar with a friend of mine that I'm studying in the city with, for lunch as his father invited us. The place has a really impressive look and feel to it. For a "corporate" venue it doesn't give off the usual pneumonia that one expects. The wait staff are remarkably brilliant in their roles, checking at just the right time if all is well, offering additional items from the menu when required.
I ordered the beef burger main, and I have never tasted a better prepared dish of this sort elsewhere. The pricing is adequate and there is no real sense of sterility nor uptightness about the venue. The beverages arrived on time with the bill being around $60 for three, including three mains and drinks one of which was champagne.
I will definitely be returning again and highly recommend this to anyone who works near Martin Place/MLC building.
Attended Wednesday night for Chrissie drinks with girlfriends. Even though it is in the middle of the MLC courtyard, it's not too bad for a location, it's central! We ordered Tapinade and the Mezze Plate, I would suggest each plate be only enough for two, both plates averagely nice. The service, however, was impeccable! Oh to have waiters and waitresses like that at every occasion!
Due to it's proximity to my workplace, I've lunched in Ambar on a number of occasions. I have always found the food to be competently prepared and quite tasty, and that opinion has generally been shared by my colleagues. The service is brisk and efficient, if at times verging on brusque. And for a fully licensed venue in the absolute heart of the CBD, I would deem the prices charged to be fairly reasonable.
Ordered Grilled Altlantic Salmon and grilled prawns for $28.50, the dressing for the salad was described as chilli and lemongrass, actually it was the kraft sweet chilli sauce and it was poured all over the salmon, shame on you kitchen staff!
