This is my second visit here, I came back because I noticed they did gluten free pizza bases, and I was shouting dinner for a friend who has a number of allergies, which included basil and dairy. So ordinary pizza is out of the question unless made at home.
So I chatted with the owner and he made us two tasty gourmet pizzas on gluten free bases and without basil, or cheese. These are no easy feats for a pizza shop, and just goes to show that their pizzas are fresh and made on the spot and the extensive selection of pizzas available.
Highly recommended, I will be coming back here, their variety was great with some unusual combinations, it is not your average Italian pizza. Well worth it!!
I came to this restaurant with a large group of friends (there were seventeen of us all up). I was struck by the warm welcoming atmosphere and the sharp décor. The pizzas however, turned out to be a major disappointment.
Whilst the pizza base was actually terrific, being thin, light and perfectly crunchy, the toppings were just plain weird: chicken pieces with desiccated coconut and blobs of sauce, dried herb pizza with olive oil drizzled on top, prawns with a sweet sauce topping and other odd combinations. Most of the pizzas lacked salami and only occasionally would there be any visible signs of cheese, which in the event were nothing more than a few pitifully small lumps of boccacini. Boring, boring boring! The toppings were so tight fistedly applied it was just downright depressing.
On the way to the bathroom midway through our meal, I walked past the kitchen and could not help but notice two young kids in there making the pizzas. This seemed strange to me; I wasn't aware that such young kids were allowed to work. More to the point, I don't think they can substitute for a seasoned pizza chef who understands the art of pizza making. I really do wonder about this.
I resumed my seat at the table and all too soon, the lady owner walked up to our table and announced that we had eaten our $25 per person worth of pizza. I was surprised as were a number of others with me. Many of us were still quite hungry and so we asked for some more pizzas, this time with meat on them (up until then, virtually none of the pizzas had any meat). We were advised that this would add”a bit” onto the price. When they arrived, our meat pizzas were disturbingly short of meat.
So the bill came to $35 per person. Now when you’re in this sort of territory, you will invariably be compared to other similarly priced restaurants. So 17 people times $35…you do the numbers.
The wash up: The whole episode really was a pitiful affair. The pizzas were very ordinary in taste and were damn expensive all of which confirms my belief that Sydney lacks decent reasonably priced Italian restaurants.
The pizza is to die for, pasta is good too. Reasonably priced definitely a favourite with the locals besure to ask for the ice-land pizza not to be missed. We will be back very soon.
Went here on Saturday night for dinner, made a 8pm booking. The place was empty which was a bit of a concern. We were feeling pekish so we went for 2 regular pizzas and a salad. I must say the food is fresh and lovely. An easy intimate dinner. It's a real shame that more people weren't there to enjoy it. It is down a bit from the popular busy restaurants near the intersection. I found this place to be on par with others on offer in the area.
My suggestion to the management is to dress up the tables with at least disposable tablecloths and perhaps a tealight candle. It will give the place a more intimate feel and turn the heat up on a cold night. Overall very nice, service was attentive but not over the top. I will go back.
Came here on a weeknight and we were the only customers there for the entire evening. The food was good, in particular the Iceland pizza, and the service was attentive (possibly cos we were the only ones there!!) We stayed till around 10 pm, and were not rushed out the door.
We were a bit worried when we got to the restaurant and there was hardly anyone in there, we shouldn't have though. The food was excellent and the waitress very friendly. We each had a different dish and loved them all. Very good value for money.
Dropped in here early yesterday evening without a booking and got a seat immediately near the front doors. I enjoyed the bruschetta and veggie pizza I ordered and my husband said the prawns on his pizza were very tasty.
The service was prompt and friendly. The price was quite reasonable, considering we had three glasses of red wine too. We may return to try something other than pizza, as several dishes on the menu sounded delicious.
The owner was very friendly and chatted for a while. This is the second time I have dined here and the food is good with nice sized portions. Both the veal and beef were excellent.
We have been going here every week for a while now. The staff are warm and friendly and the food is great. We specially recommend the bruschetta, the Sicilian pizza (with fresh bocconcini) and the home made fresh ricotta cake is to die for!
We recently discovered this gem while exploring Haberfield one sunday afternoon. We have been back numerous times since. We drive from Coogee just for their Gourmet Pizza's. The staff were warm and friendly and the owner made us VERY welcome. It has only been opened for a few months, any one who has not tried it, is missing out on some taste sensations. They served the best pizzas we have ever tasted!
