Boy oh Boy was I disappointed by this place! A shocker I know but I felt like I was robbed after we left!
Everything, bar the view, was a let down! The food was not worth what we were paying, the service was so slow! The waiters kept passing our table even though the place was far from busy. Our wine glasses were empty for an age before we were topped up. I even feel annoyed again about the place as I am now writing this review!
There is nothing worse that paying top dollar only to be disappointed like this. I hate it. In the current climate when most of us don't have the dollars to be wasting I just kept thinking that we would have been better off going to our local organic butcher and getting a few succulent steaks and having a BBQ at home!
The food was really good, rabbit and venison were slightly over seasoned. The service was terrible, would have expected so much more from a restaurant of this price. Waiters mumbled and did not explain courses properly. Had to wait 10 minutes for water I asked for.
I had a lovely evening here. Being a vegetarian, I was very pleased to see they actually had a separate vegetarian menu. The linguine with walnuts and mushroom was absolutely delicious, as was the parmesan gnocchi main. Dessert was pear with muscat cream and ice cream, and it was superb. They even served complimentary tasting dishes between courses, including petit fours.
Dinner was accompanied by a wonderful Henschke red wine and ended with a glass of port. The views to the harbour bridge and Luna Park were very pretty. Service was friendly and very helpful, nothing was too much bother for the staff. I wouldn't hesitate to dine here again.
We went to Altitude for the Degustation menu (7 courses) last week. The service was good but most of the courses were terrible. The fish, although with crispy skin, was bland and not fresh. The beef did not has any beef taste and was not fresh. It was the worst meal that I have ever had in a 5-star hotel restaurant. I was utterly disappointed with the food. Not going there again.
Out of the expensive restaurants, this is one of the better dining experiences. Food is always 1st class. Servings are very small but designed so you order all three courses. The views are amazing and service is good as you would expect for the price that you are paying.
A downside about this place is that I have been here about 4 times in 08 (usually when bringing overseas visitors) is that not once have I gotten a window seat despite always asking for it and arriving early. Also be warned if you go to this place (and this will happen everytime) you will be called by a telemarketer asking you to join a Shangri-la loyalty program which costs a fair bit.
One telemarketer hung up on me cause he got so offended that I wasn't willing to spend several hundred dollars on a loyalty card and one just wouldn't let me go after saying no at least 5 times and started hyperventilating (very funny). Overall a mixed experience but food and service have never disappointed.
The room has a quiet and subdued atmosphere without being snooty. Perfect for taking in the breathtaking views and mouth-watering food. The little extras between courses are what I'd come to expect of 5-star restaurants, but it's been lacking for so long. The mains come with a generous amount of trimming making us glad we hadn't ordered sides.
Friendly, unobtrusive service, and they know to leave your plates until you're both done. A simple thing, but so few waiters have any idea of etiquette these days.
Our dining experience at Altitude for a special occasion was a huge disappointment due the to service of the staff. In saying that the food as great, well done to the chefs who kept up their end of the deal. From the moment we walked in we were constantly having to ask for simple things such as the menu and the wine list.
The service was extremely slow after waiting 35 minutes for our first drink and 1hr for our first of 4 course we didn't feel welcome or well looked after at all and after the paying the bill we felt even more neglected but because the service was so bad we couldn't even find any one to mention our frustrations to! Capped off a bad experience to what should have been a truly favorable one. They are lucky they have such amazing view that's all I can say.
A fabulous place to be wined and dined. We enjoyed a cocktail in the bar area before entering the Altitude restaurant. The restaurant has a gorgeous '4 course weekend' offer, try the rabbit, it was delightful. A meal I would not have often but fabulous to try.
The view from the window was absolutely amazing, mesmerising. We were very happy to have a table close to the amazing view. The service was at a steady pace and we found the restaurant even though a higher priced category to be exquisite.
Well recommended.
We dined here on our 3rd anniversary and we were not disappointed. We did not have a window seat but the views were still great even from a short distance. So best to book a few weeks ahead to secure a window seat. The highlight for me were their service. The food was also nice but it comes in smaller portion as you would usually expect in such fine dining restaurants.
The main course took a bit of time to arrive but it was not too late and I did not even say anything about it but they apologised for being late and offered a complimentary cheese plate which was really wonderful. Nick who was serving us is a great asset to this restaurant if management ever reads these comments here. Highly recommended for your special occasion.
