A lively and welcoming pub with decent if not slightly overpiced pub grub. We had fish and chips which was great and a rump steak that came medium rather than the ordered rare. It was still a great tasting steak and the portions were good.
Great place for a down to earth feed and a glass of wine.
Used to be a regular visitor with family and friends for lunch but new management have decided not to open dining room for lunch which devastated my 8 years old who specifically wanted to go there for his birthday lunch and we did not find out until we got there, a bit of advertising would be nice.
We had a great weekend, we stayed at the pub, the food is very good, the accommodations are basic, but you're only there to sleep. Pub was packed on Friday night, drinking and dancing. Saturday was a bit quieter but with a group of people we had a ball. We will be back and often.
I had a rump steak here last week. This is the best steak I have had that I can remember. It was cooked to perfection. My family was very happy with their different meals of duck, soup, barramundi and lamb hocks. Nice eating area and a great bar to kick back at afterwards.
Wow! The Alex has changed a lot since I last dropped in many years ago. I remember it being a little dingy. Anyway, the food here is decent enough pub/cafe food for a reasonable price. Friendly staff too.
New management have taken over the restaurant out the back. Prices have gone up whilst the quality of the food has gone down. Some of the staff have left and the new ones it seems don't know what they are doing. Your best option is to order the counter meals from the front bar, is usually of a better quality and definitely a better price than the back bar. You can sit outside if you can handle the trains going past.
Reasonable pub food, the bistro food is a little better than the bar menu but is more expensive - both are pretty overpriced. Out the back is quite lovely on a sunny day despite some noisy freight trains - if only they'd extend/open up the balcony upstairs to take advantage of the fantastic view which is sadly just out of sight otherwise. Probably the best outdoor pub venue in the Leura/Katoomba area. If you are desperate for a schooner with your food then this is the place to go (even just for the beer), otherwise there are just too many better options only a short walk away.
The Alex Hotel has great food and is not too expensive. The terrace out the back is drenched with sun and is a really lovely place to have that Saturday lunch with the kids. The staff are friendly and it's a real mountain gem. Well worth a visit!
