When my husband and I walked into this restaurant about a year ago (just driving past), we stopped to get a quick bite to eat. Now we are there at least once a week. The food is amazinggggg (especially the fatoush), it is very reasonably priced, the service is great and they are very generous with portions and serving sizes. I must say it is a 10/10 for me.
My partner and I were looking for a good mixed plate for 2. Unfortunately, most of the mixed plates didn’t have 2 of everything, but just 1 in total of some of the popular entrees.
Were we supposed to order 1 mixed plate each? Separate dips, etc? It would have set us back 20 dollars each for way too much to eat on our own. I still can’t believe there was only 1 falafel on the mixed plate. Perhaps, we were supposed to split it down the middle?
In the end we were forced to get separate servings (6 per serve) of Falafel and Sambousik, and a meat platter to accompany our mixed plate. We also ordered some Fatoush. We didn’t need 6 of each, 1-2 of each would have been fine, but they didn’t exist separately on in the mixed plates. A mixed entree would have been perfect, 2 falafel, 2 Sambousik and 2 fried kibbeh balls. That way you could sample most of them.
We would have been better off with a banquet but nothing catered for only 2 people, just 5 or more. We have now eaten at Summerland, Emma’s, La Shish and now Al Aseel and have read the reviews and while the food was good at Al Aseel, it did not stand up to other restaurants, except for the service, which was solid.
The Food was good, Hummus wasn’t the best, but the Fatoush was almost as good as La Shish, Waitress was fast and efficient. Only thing that lacked was some sweeter dips, such as some pomegranate molasses or some sweet chilli sauce to balance out the spices.
It’s not the kind of restaurant where you go for the ambience or entertainment, but just for some good quick cheap food, but for us, it ended up being a little expensive for what we got. We didn’t get the variety we were looking for with the money we paid. In the end it cost us 74 dollars, and we wished we had gone to Summerland. Maybe I have just been spoilt eating there.
Great place, very authentic lebanese food and no-nonsense. Only problem is getting a seat during weekend lunch/dinner hours but I guess that just highlights how good the place really is. Thumbs up!
Best lebanese food I have ever had by far! 6 adults and 2 kids shared 3 mixed platters between us. Loved everything from the freshly cooked skewers, dips and tabouleh. Will def be a regular here.
Not too keen on the plate of pickled veg they give you to munch on while waiting for our order. Might be a good idea to serve some dips to go with the bread before the mains are served.
I only tried the mixed platter, but I don't think Al Aseel is as good as a couple of other places I can think of in this part of Sydney. It's possible I'm selling it short, though, as there are numerous dishes (fish and seafood mainly) here that aren't available at the usual Lebanese eateries.
I have been to this place several times and keep going back. The hommous is so fresh as well as the Babaganoush and garlic dip. The mix platter is worth every penny as I share it with my partner and yet we cannot go through it. Also the laban comes in individual bottle, a salted yogurt, so fresh and a good accompaniment with the meats.
It is a simple restaurant, the decor simple, so cannot impress on a date as there are plenty of families, so just goes to show how trusted the food is. We end up paying less than $30.00 for two and yet cannot gobble it all. Hope we get to see another branch of yours in Darlinghurst so we do not have to drive a long way next time.
Always buzzing, always busy and always great food. This is the best Lebanese restaurant in Sydney in this reviewer's humble opinion. Almost the same prices as Jasmin in Lakemba, but with even better quality food and a much more pleasant atmosphere.
Their lemon garlic chicken is just amazing. If you like garlic and lemon, then this is just to die for. Even if you don't, stop your whinging and eat it anyway. It's that good! As for the fatoush, who would have thought a salad could taste some incredible. It's not the dry carrot laden affair served up at so many other places. They have quite simply re-invented the dish and improved upon it in leaps and bounds. All the lebanese staples are also present, with sufficient quantities and combination of every skewered meat and/or accompaniment imaginable, all cooked to perfection.
We were there for lunch this afternoon and the 5 of us ate for $61 including 3 drinks. We were absolutely satisfied with our meal and walked out feeling great.
Came here for a Sunday lunch. As soon as we were seated, there was already bread on the table and a plate of picked pickles, radish/turnip, cucumber and chilli were quickly placed on our table. We ordered a mixed plate, lemon chicken, falafel and chips.
The food came out fast. After that, the staff didn't come around to our table again until we asked for the bill. The falafel was very fragrant. One of the tastiest I've ever had. Lemon chicken was also very delicious, however, it would have been better in an entree size or if we were in a larger group (there was only 2 of us). The lamb on the mixed place was tough and burnt and the chicken was also slightly burnt. Great humus though.
The bill came out to be $50 for the two of us. Would come back again for a cheap eat.
This place is the best, I have been to this restaurant too many times to keep count. Food is always great, service is fast. Love it, its great for a group and kid friendly too.
Just as good as my favorite lebanese places, this place was packed when I came a sunday afternoon, and the prices are what you expect to pay at the cheaper lebanese places. They also have seafood options and banquet options (which are good value), you almost get filled up when they bring out the complementary bread and veges (picked pickles, radish/turnip, cucumber and chilli).
Service was fast here but the food did take a little while to come out, but then again it was packed, which was a minor issue. Now I have 3 lebanese places which I can clearly say are easily worth going too.
