This is a fantastic little place always packed and very good value. I discovered this place about a month ago and have been the 6 out of the last 7 days. The food is authentic and delish the only problem is that they don't chill their sushi/ Sushimi. Overall highly reccomended for a nice cheap place to eat for the locals.

The food is always fresh and tasty. The staff are very sweet. It seems like a family-owned business because the staff really try and take care of you and don't just treat you like a number in the system. The food is always fresh. My personal recommendations - order jap chae, agedashi tofu and ohitashi from the entrees (probably not all in 1 go hehe). Chicken katsu is gorgeous and their teriyaki chicken is absolutely amazing too! Their yakisoba which I think comes in a bento box is delicious too. Bottom line: never eaten anything that's not amazing from there, ever.

This is nothing more than a hole-in-the-wall Japanese eatery on the corner of Belmore and Alison Roads. No bookings, no toilets, no corkage. But it’s popular enough and there are always customers.

It’s casual and relaxed, so just pitch up and if you can get a seat plonk yourself down and soon the pretty waitress will take your order. Tables are cramped and uncomfortable, but chances are you won’t stay long.

But the food is good, portions are decent-sized, service is quick and the prices are reasonable. We paid $33 for a shared starter of piping hot, fresh vegetarian spring rolls and two mains: a sweet and sour chicken and a vegetable teriyaki dish. The chicken was delicious: tender pieces of chicken in a tangy sauce and a nice selection of vegetables to go with it. Dishes come with a bowl of rice and a bowl of miso soup. Nice touch that miso soup to get your appetite going.

Another plus is that Akarui is one of the few places on dreary Belmore Rd where you can still get a meal after 9.00 pm. We arrived at 9.15 pm on a Sat. night and although it was empty and it looked like they were ready to close for the night, we were surprised when we were invited to sit down. But we weren’t the only diners for long. By the time we left just before 10.00 pm, there were three other occupied tables.

I’m glad that we finally tried this place after walking past it so many times because it’s good to know that you can get a cheap and filling meal so close to home. We’ll definitely be back.
