Having lived in Japan I am very hard to impress when it comes to Japanese restaurants. Ainoya manages not only to impress me, but to blow me away. The staff are delightful, real Japanese people and the ambience of the resturant is just like the places I used to visit in my home town in Japan.
The food is fantastic - try the Wagyu beef, it melts in your mouth! Great food, great presentation and without all the fanfare, just simple Japanese style dining at its best!
Very cute place. Loved the soft shell crab and wagyu beef. Just order plenty of dishes, bring along your favourite bottle of wine and you'll have a great night. Service was lovely.
This has become one of my regular Japanese haunts. Excellent food, beautifully presented, and wonderfully consistent. Try the soft shell crab sushi (Spider roll), the duck breast, gyoza .... anything really is always wonderful!!!
I went there and the food was awful. Truly I have never had worse Japanese. I was so disappointed and when I complained they didn't care. I will never go back despite the other good comments that led me there in the first place. It makes me wonder who writes these reviews. And how much do they know about Japanese cuisine. One to give a miss.
The restaurant is beautifully set out, especially the traditional seating. The staff are friendly and helpful. We ordered the banquet, and found thet the food was very plentiful with a variety of dishes. Some were great especially the sushi platter, however, a lot of them were extremely salty, especially the teriyaki dishes.
In short.. Loved it. I called on Friday morning and booked for the same day. Don't have a high expectation in the way of high class dining though. It's simply a basic Japanese restaurant with delicious, well presented food. I thought the service was great. We had a lovely young Japanese girl who was friendly with my bad attempt to speak Japanese to her. The trout (or another fish - can't remember) belly was by far the best. We ordered too much because their menu had so many delicious things on it. Definitely worth a try.
Been twice now, and it is really good. Service is a little bit eccentric (the waiter asked us to move so all the men were on one side of the table and all the women on the other for some reasons, which we refused) and you have to book the day before. Great house Saki, and very friendly staff. The Negi-tori tuna is a must! Everything is beautifully presented as well!
Fresh, friendly, flavoursome! This is our third time and it's just great. The sashimi was delicate in presentation and simply delicious - especially the Kingfish.
Sushi for my daughter and the soft shell crab for my wife both good. The tempura got a bit thick in the batter but otherwise well done. Tataki was great as was the udon hot pot - they almost licked the bowls! Great premium sake menu too!
Family friendly and attentive, the staff make Ainoya a 'must do'.
Having gone to the much lauded and good value Kyushu for years, it was a refreshing suprise to visit a very different Japanese style restaurant with a completely new menu that will challenge the way you perceive Japanese cooking to be.
Fab food, great service and it will be our weekly regular now.
What a joy this restaurant is. Fresh Japanese dishes, BYO and wonderful service. It is only a small restaurant but what they lack in floor space, they make up for in pure excellence. I have dined now over five times in this restaurant and when we feel like Japanese it is worth the trip from Artarmon, even though we have about 15 Japanese restaurants closer.
We have certainly tried our share of Japanese restaurants, and finding Ainoya was like finding our Xanadu. You will not be let down. The Wagyu beef melts on your tongue, and even the basic Miso soup goes beyond the joy of taste. Do yourselves a favour, book a table and dine at Ainoya.
