Great and interesting food at an amazing price. We had the mixed entree platter which was delicious. It was made fresh which, unfortunately, meant it took a long time to get out of the kitchen. I think the chef needs to work out how to pre-prepare some stuff to speed things along. Mains came out promptly. We didn't have dessert as we were told it was 20 minutes wait for one of them.

Funny you should mention the four entrees Julie, exactly the same thing happened to our group last night! I guess it's a matter of cross-cultural communication confusion. It worked out well tho as we had a bunch of hungry adolescents and it kept them going till the mains arrived.
I go to African Queen regularly and especially like the black eyed beans with plantain (aboabo) and the gran nut stew, peanuts as you've never tasted them before, mmmm. The fish is usually good too, not so much the mixed seafood dishes tho. It's a good idea to book ahead as this can reduce the waiting time.

Took the family here last night on the strength of the reviews here and last week's taste of the famous Ginger Beer which is the stuff of my childhood!
After quite a wait, we received four times our desired entree due to a misunderstanding with the vivacious young waitress! We ordered one mixed entree platter for four people and received 4 entrees, all the same, this entree was a meal on its own! Some very unusual items and also very tasty eg the plaintain and chicken wings.
The mains then took rather a while to arrive as there is only one chef and the waitress doubles as the kitchenhand. We loved the flavour of the food, the beef and black-eyed beans was good and the seafood stew was very yummy. There are lovely spice combinations that we haven't tasted before and we enjoyed trying some new things.
The restaurant itself is clean and bright and the service was very pleasant. Whilst we were not blown away by this experience we would consider returning to try some of the other dishes on the menu that sound so interesting and healthy!

The food is absolutely delicious and wholesome, with delicious use of herbs and spices. The staff are warm and friendly and made me feel really welcome like I was in the kitchen of their home. And it was excellent value.

Awesome food. For a culture that appeared exotic to me the taste and flavours were so accessible to a first time tryer of african cuisine. The dishes were homely, earthly, aromatic and spicy in generous portions. The entree fried plaintain (which was a savoury fried banana dish with an awesome okra tomato salsa) was exceptional. The waitress is very youthful and bubbly and the cook is quite matronly. There is a very family feel to this restaurant.
The disadvantage is that there appears to be only one cook and so food takes a while to come out but it is very worth it. So don't go there starving like marvin! The Safari Beef is exceptionally good, but if you wanted a more mellow flavour try the beef and spinach stew which is also very good. This place doesn't get enough patronage for how good it is!
