Overview
Picture the white sands of the Adriatic – and the whitewashed towns of the Dalmatian coast – combined with the freshest Australian fish and shellfish grilling over hot coals… all in inner city Darlinghurst. The Adriatic Seafood and Grill in the heart of Taylor Square is a new restaurant offering modern Mediterranean cuisine.
Cameron Letnic, a chef with over 15 years experience in some of Sydney’s finest restaurants, recommends the fish fresh from the market and grain fed beef including:
– Balmain Bugs Dalmatian style.
– Grilled reef fish
– Grilled Sirloin with Dalmatian salad
– Pink Snapper fillet with Spring Onions, Chat Potatoes and Salsa Verde
Also:
– Crispy Skin Chicken Breast, stuffed with Sage and Fetta.
– Crab linguini
Cameron’s Nonna, Vesna, cooks the classic Balkan and Mediterranean dishes: Sarma (Cabbage rolls), Cevapcici, Raznjici, smoked pork, pastas and risottos.
Be greeted at the front of house by Cameron’s dad Laurie, or Lovro, as nonna Letnic calls him who says:
“Join us for seafood that has its roots in Dalmatian tradition, shaped by hundreds of years of Italian influence but with a modern Australian twist!”
Ate here last night. One of the best meals I've had in a while. My wife and I had a mixed seafood and meat grill which was only $60 for the two of us. They even gave us a free Croation style licquore after the meal. Corkage was cheap ($2.50 each). The one thing I will say is I think seafood is definitely their specialty. The meat platter, whilst nice maybe needed some seasoning to add a little flavour.
The seafood though was beautiful. We got there early so the service was very attentive. The owners were very nice and engaged us in coversation which we didn't mind. Would definitely go there again!
I love my seafood and I think I've just found the 'best' seafood venue in Darlinghurst if not in Sydney. The food appears to be only from the grill unlike some places where it is battered, deep fried and greasy. The presentation of the food was well above the norm. There were lots of choices in fish and grilled meat which some of my party had, as well as pasta. Prices seem to range from about $18 to $30.
My friends and I visited last Saturday night and had a fabulous time. Service was friendly, attentive but not intrusive. Wine and beer were reasonably priced. I couldn't go past choosing the seafood platter. It was beautifully presented with a wonderful selection of absolutely fresh, perfectly cooked and tasty seafood. The fresh fruit was an added touch to the platter. The serving was so generous that we struggled to finish it. One of the party had the grilled steak and said that it was so tender and cooked to perfection. The whole grilled snapper was moist and full of flavour.
Would recommend this restaurant to all seafood and meat lovers. Fantastic value! Will definitely be going back again soon. Hopefully they might think about opening for lunch as well.
After reading the reviews I chose this place to have a birthday dinner gathering with some friends. When we arrive we were the only one there. We brought a bottle of wine and the lady asked us if it was someone's birthday. My friend pointed out it was my birthday today. We decided on the seafood platter as the reviews recommended this. The platter was huge and was beautifully decorated with fruits in the middle.
Seafood was absolutely fresh and the calamari tasted fabulous. We couldn't even finish the whole platter. After the meal, I was surprised with a complimentary dessert. It was a tiramisu and vanilla moosse (I think) with fruits and sponge fingers. It was huge and shared among 3 people. We couldn't finish it. We left with the staff saying goodbye and happy birthday to me. It was fabulous dining experience. We were the only table in the restaurant! We left feeling like VIP's.
My boyfriend & I visited this restaurant on a Tuesday night so we weren't expecting to have an overly great night. When we arrived we were the only people there but we hardly even noticed. It turned out to be fabulous! We got the seafood platter and loved it. The service was friendly and great value! We will definitely return soon.
We had the 'Seafood Platter' for 2 . It was delicious , well cooked with a great variety of seafood and also great value . The added fresh fruit was great.
I enjoyed this meal. It was a toss up between the some of the Croatian inspired home cooking and the grill. I chose the grilled Blue Eye Trevally, very tasty. Others at our table raved about the bugs and home made aoli. Next time will try the seafood platter. Had a peek at the upstairs room which would be a great place to have a Christmas party.
The night we visited we had a selection of seafood, the grilled king prawns arrived promptly and were delicious. The Snapper main was similarly good. I did not know any of the wines on the wine list, but was pleasantly surprised by the sauvignon blanc I drank, all in all a great night.
