Half dessert store/half dessert train. Like a sushi train where the aburi salmon rolls have been replaced with Zumbo's flavour mash-ups. Unfortunately, there are no cheap $2.00 plates. While gimmicky, the train is a good photo op and an interesting concept, but the desserts are so sweet that I can't imagine normal humans stomaching more than one without exponentially speeding up the rate of tooth decay.

The Zumborons are definitely crowd pleasers (lime and mint mojito or salted butter caramel). You will likely be suckered into buying some of the "wackier" flavours, but really, how many times have you craved a Vegemite flavoured macaron? Thought so.

We tried a few small items including the macaroons, most were a bit too sweet and not as nice good as the cakes we have tried from balmain a year or so ago.
The place looks a bit 'out-there!', all part of the fun I guess.

We bought a decorated chocolate fondant cake for my bday and some macaroons... The cake was basically just chocolate... not liquid chocolate like on normal fondant, it just big block of chocolate that too rich for anyone... Even for a chocolate lover like me!
The macaroons was terrible! Out of a dozen that we bought, only 2 that I like. The rest is too goey, too swet or too oily! And when we asked the staff member which one is a good one, the replied was "All of them is good, just pick some because we are busy." What kind of attitude is that?

I fell in love with Zumbo's patisseries since watching his magic on Masterchef, but never realise that his store and quality is at this low level.

We planned for dessert on a Sunday at Adriano Zumbo new dessert train at The Star casino after a fish market lunch. By arriving 10 minutes before opening at noon, we secured our seats before a queue was formed.

The variety and creativity of the desserts on offer were amazing. Given the price tag ($9-$11 per plate), we limited ourselves to 2 plates only. The ssnowmanorr was nicely soft and complimented well with the subtle lychee and coconut cream.

The cube caramel found the perfect balance among caramel, passionfruit and ginger – a combination we can never imagine working.

So disappointing. I was so looking forward to these highly famed macarons. What a let down. When biting into it it wasn't chewy, they felt old. Flavours are just not nice. Although I have to admit I love the redskin flavour. Also tried the V8 cake and that totally lived up to the expectations. Would come back for that too. Very haphazard ordering especially when it is very busy. Would rather go somewhere else for quality macarons. Now thats quality.

Wow I now know what all the fuss is about. I had no idea Adrian Zumbo had opened a patisserie in the newly refurbed "The Star". So upon stumbling across it we had to try his infamous Zumbarons.

Interesting selections on offer. He certainly isn't afraid to try different flavour combinations & steers clear of your tradional one dimensional macaroons. We grabbed the Lime & Mint Mojito, Cola, Milo, Salted butter caramel, Lychee & finally the Chocolate, Chilli & Cinnamon zumbarons.

I can honestly say they were all delicious. I think I'm officially addicted to them now. Agree they aren't the cheapest items for what you get but they are a guilty pleasure worth paying for.

I found the set up of the store a little confusing with minimal assistance however I'm prepared to forgive & forget considering how much I loved the food. The Shop is bright & fun very much in theme with the food delivered. Indulge I say.

Overpriced and underdone. So underwhelmed by the staff, ordering system and quality of the cakes at this new location. The cakes were unusual flavours but unappetising when tasted, not overly fresh and so haphazardly boxed they didn't survive the 6 minute walk home (cake slop anyone?).

The macaroons I had were dead ordinary and inconsistent in quality and taste. I was so excited initially that Zumbo was opening in my local area but now after two horrible experiences I'm avoiding it like the plague and won't bother lining up in Balmain anymore either. Zumbo's glitter has worn off for me.

We had been very excited about experiencing Zumbo's new dessert train shop at The Star. We went late on Saturday night about 10ish which being late we expected them to stop refreshing the desserts on the train but no we were pleasantly surprised to see a wide variety and quantity of desserts keep coming out. We tried macaroons first which were delicious but no label to identify what flavours they were.

Next we shared tastes like Doris choc orange cake. Looked spot on but very rich in flavours, better mixed with ice cream. Last we tried violet crumble which we would definitely have again. The experience was a fun, laid back way of treating yourself to a dessert. Wait staff were accommodating to needs and requests for a particular dessert missed on the train. A must experience for any zumbo fan. I will definitely return as there are many more desserts I would like to try!

My only criticism is the bottled drinks/juices on the train need to be chilled as ours was quite warm!

Nice decor with neon lights and bright colours in the new shop but because of the name, the prices are quite high and the new macros that came out, while they do have interesting flavours like Milo, Redskin and Salt and vinegar, it's too sweet and at $2.50 each ( price reasonable as other cafes charge higher, but when you pay $10 for 4) I prefer a nice slice of cake.

I have a belly for a reason. I eat macaroons at least 3 times a week. So when I finally arrived at Zumbo's after gushing over him on MC, my friends and I tried every flavour there was to offer. Spending $50 at a patisserie is commitment!
    The zumborons were So disappointing.

Texture: airy and flaky, very little of the satisfactory chewiness the macaroons are loved for. The filling in between gets runny overnight, even when we stored it in a cool place.

Taste: Not too sweet (thank heavens). Strange flavours that are exciting to try once, but wouldn't splurge on again. The only nice flavours: Lychee, Caramelised pumpkin seeds and cola. Sweet corn with a hint of mango, tasted like licking a paper cup (really). Coconut, green chilli and lavender, just weird. Lime & Mint Mojito - Palmolive hand wash. Hot Chocolate - make a cup of coco and put a teaspoon of asian chili powder on top and drink it without stirring.

(My strange descriptions are befitting or the strange flavours... go try it for yourself). We also had 'Youranuse' (uranus) - much better! I suggest that people splurge on the pastries rather than the zumborons.
