I used to go the the CMC restaurant which this place overtook and I think its a great value spot in Darling Harbour, I think from memory its now owned by the same company that runs all the other restaurants in that Cockle Bay strip. What I like about this place is for breakfast you can always get a seat. There are heaters in winter and also all the food is cooked on order and the menu has a good range of items without confusing you.
I have ate at all the breakfast joints in DH and I have to say for what you get and what you pay and the location its the best in the area. I am never rushed and the staff appear to be travellers, however, they are polite and positive unlike others in the area. I have had lunch and the tasting plate is great value. I am never rushed and I have held on to the table for a while without being asked to leave or order more food. One small thing, its the only joint in DH where they actually buy newspapers.
My husband and I had breakfast here one weekday morning. It was quite cool and windy, but we had our own personal patio heater so it was quite pleasant! The view is fantastic.
We ordered the crepes with maple syrup and berries and scrambled eggs with smoked salmon and mushroom sides. The eggs were lovely, and the sides of salmon and mushrooms were generous. The crepes were nice. The berries were a bit generic-frozen. The maple syrup was plonked on the table in its original plastic bottle - "IGA Maple Flavoured Syrup". If you must use maple flavoured syrup at least put it in a little jug and warm it to hide the fact! It was still quite delicious, and the fact that the whole bottle of syrup was there meant that we could use as much of it as we wanted!
Drinks were fine. Service OK. What it has really going for it is its location.
Had dinner here on a quiet Monday night with a group of 10 friends for a birthday. It's the worse meal I have had in a long long time.
For starters we had the grilled Hollumi, whislt it was nice it was nothing special.
For the main I had the carvery plate. What a disappointment, the pork was ok, the sirloin and lamb were overcooked and tough, and the chicken was so dry I couldn't even eat it. For dessert I had the Sticky Date Pudding - It tasted like it was a frozen one, very bland.
It was also a very cold night and they didn't have many heaters on. On the upside the waitress was extremely attentive and friendly. But at $70 per head I definitely will not be going back.
I ate breakfast here on a Sunday and was delighted with the warmth of the heaters as it was a cold and windy day. We were seated straight away and the lady who served us was somewhat friendly.
I ordered the crepes while the other 4 people I was with ordered the big breakfast. Food came out in alright time, though my berries tasted frozen they thawed by the microwave which was disappointing, but the crepes themselves were bland but not bad once I drenched them in maple syrup.
My friends’ breakfasts looked good, though the eggs were burnt and another got hardly any mushrooms. I ordered a caramel latte, which was actually fantastic, though again a friend’s coffee tasted burnt and a tea that was ordered took the duration of our breakfast to arrive. Having said that, the price didn't match the food either.
When I went to pay the bill, I was left standing for a good 5 minutes while 2 staff members saw me, made eye contact and then turned around as if they didn’t see me. A man who had been serving another table, came and took care of the bill while the other 2 staff members who saw me previously looked on while still chatting. Although my brekkie was edible, 1 out of 5 being “happy” with their breakfast isn’t good odds.
I decided to have dinner here with my boyfriend before we went and saw a show at the lyric theatre. We made a reservation turned up had to wait a while even though the restaurant was only half full then sat at our table for ages before anyone bothered to ask us if we wanted drinks or starter. Mind you my cocktail was delightful and the view is awesome who doesn’t love cockle bay.
We ordered garlic bread was nice. Then for mains my boyfriend order whole baby snapper which was alright no sides bit boring. I order seafood risotto which I was craving all day was very sloppy and bland and mushy very disappointed there was something in there felt sandy to bite. Dessert we orders crepes with berries really nice filled with custard in the middle.
Overall view you can’t go wrong with. Food was mediocre, not good value for what you paying.
My husband and I had breakfast here on Sunday and it was very disappointing. The restaurant was just about empty, however when we arrived there was no-one to seat us. When we were finally greeted, we were told to just sit anywhere.
We were given menus immediately and our drink order was taken. We waited about 15 minutes while the 3 wait staff finished their conversations and gestured the waiter over to take our order. There is only about 6 items on the breakfast menu so it really doesn't exactly take long to decide.
Our meals arrived within about 4 minutes (a physical impossibility if you are poaching eggs and cooking bacon). It was obvious to us that the food is pre-cooked and it tasted awful. Bacon that has been pre-cooked and left sitting for long period of time is like leather, and that is exactly what we were served. With 3 chefs in the kitchen, we expected freshly cooked food.
I would never return to this restaurant for breakfast. We have been for dinner previously and I was also not impressed. When you look at the other restaurants operated by this group, this is a very poor showing indeed!
I ate here a few weeks back with my partner. It was a random and unplanned dinner date, and we just stumbled in on this place because it had heaters! The services was good but the entree we ordered (salt and pepper calamari - a simple dinner) was an absolute disappointment. It tasted like they had accidently dropped the entire contents of the salt shaker into our food.
I was pleasantly surprised, however when my main arrived... I got the Ribs, that were on special for the night and they were the best value for money I have ever had. Massive, to say the least. My partner's steak was fine nothing special but this restaurant had won me over with the ribs. Overall I probably would go back, but it definitely wouldn't be my first choice on the harbour.
This place looks great and is superbly placed in Cockle Bay wharf. I decided to have my birthday here. My wife and I had an unbelievably cooked steak that night.
To start off, they had double booked the area I had requested before any other function had arose. They tried to offer outdoor seating which I refused so they did accommodate indoor. I chose the $55 set menu - starters were delicious, entrees were divine, anything you chose was yum.
Mains were a disgrace - spaghetti tasted like over cooked 2 minutes noodles, the carve plate over cooked and the scotch fillet....tough....in any type of serving. I had mine medium rare expecting tenderness from the cut - I got anything but. To top off the bad main experience they tried to overcharge me on the bill by about $500. I had 30 people that night. Service was slow, they knew there were going to be large groups so accommodate for it. I would never visit the restaurant again.
