I was very disappointed and annoyed after ordering a takeaway meal for my family at this restaurant. The staff made a mistake with my order. Exhausted after a long working day I was asked to return to the restaurant to collect a new order (10 minutes drive for me). The restaurant has a delivery service but failed to make amends and correct the mistake they had made by delivering my requested menu choice to myself and my very hungry family.

As a good will gesture I believed this was the least they could do after inconveniencing myself and my family. The female 'senior staff' saw fit to blame everyone but herself for this situation and proceeded to argue with me until I finally hung the phone up in frustration. This restaurant does not deserve a Macarthur small business award. Customer service absolutely terrible. Shameful!

The food here is delicious, and is probably the tastiest Indian I've had in a long while. The butter chicken and lamb korma were both absolutely delicious, particularly as their sauces were very rich, thick and creamy. The cheese naan was scrummy and the pappadums so thin and light. At first my husband thought there wasn't much meat in the two mains, but when I reminded him that they only cost $15-16 each, it's great value. We both were stuffed full as we had to eat every last morsel as it was all so delicious!

We ordered butter chicken and garlic naan for takeaway and it was quite yummy.
But when I call a restaurant it irks me when they answer in a rushed unfriendly tone, at first I wondered if I had the correct number as I didn't hear her say I had called Aalishaan restaurant.

Me and my friends have dined in at this little restaurant few times so far and have always enjoyed the meal here. I have to admit the food is excellent and very different from the Indian that I am used to eating. Good going, keep it up...

My family and I went to Aalishaan last Friday, and we were totally blown away by the quality food. We tried the usual staples like butter chicken and lamb saag. They were fantastic - not overly saucy like in other restaurants and plenty of meat. We tried a few other dishes which were recommended which I haven't had before. All were lovely (just cant remember the names).

The entrées were great too. We had an entrée that was like a fried patty made of peas which was beautiful. The staff were great. Shannon the owner met us which was a really nice touch. The serving staff were also lovely. We are not from the area, but we will go back again.

Probably not the best Indian I have had but very nice nonetheless. The karahi is their best dish. Their butter chicken is a little unusual and the malai kofta only came with 2 dumplings in it. When we ordered take away, they gave us plain naan even though we ordered cheese. I don't know if I'd order again, maybe just for the karahi.

    Response from Management:
    Dear Customer,

Thanks for your feedback. However it’s very disappointing to know that you were not very impressed with the preparation. But really glad that you tagged our Karahi meal as the best among you ever had before.

You are right our butter chicken is not usual and by that I mean its not westernised and its the traditional Indian Butter Chicken, as oppose to the butter chicken which you must be used to eating in Australia (sweet).

We serve 2 dumplings in Malai Kofta but they are of good size and we never had any complaints regarding the quantity but I will take your feedback and increase the number of dumplings from this weekend in the serve of our Malai Kofta.

Could you please give me a call on 0468 549 895, so that I can have chat with you in regards to the Cheese Naans order, because if you ordered cheese naan breads and were given plain naan breads and you were charged for the cheese breads then it’s totally unacceptable. And I would like to investigate this matter so that we don’t make the similar mistake again.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Once again, thanks for your feedback and I would like you to try us again as I am sure you will find yourself as amazed as other those who have tagged as Best Indian Restaurant.

    Thanks.

    Shannon

Good good! Solid eights all round. Food was delicious, hot and fresh. Service was fantastic, very helpful and accomodating. A little pricey but so entirely worth it. Will definitely go back and will take friends and family too. Great job.

    Response from Management:
    Dear Erynne,

8s are not bad at all, very pleased with your review.....:)

Would still like to know what can we do to win 10s....:)

We had the takeaway lunch special which is x2 curries, rice, naan and a can of drink. The curries were yummy, the naan was delicious and the service was very friendly and nice. Amazing value.

    Response from Management:
    Dear Andy,

I am glad you got the real value. Have you tried our dinner yet? I am sure if you do you will not be disappointed.

    Thanks.

Great food, good vegetation options. Friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. Definitely the best Indian in the south west area.

Arrived at 7.40 pm with my wife and thinking try something different. It was full and was told to come back in 20 minutes, so we went away came back in 20 minutes noticed few others walked in and heard they were also told 20 minutes. Hour later saw one family of 6 just got up and walked out and they told us they been waiting for 1 hour and not even offered any drinks.

Since nothing was exciting nearby after 1 hour I walked in and surprisingly people behind us were getting seated, by then I had the shits, so finally we were told to take a seat. Waiter completely got the order wrong and after 1 hour food arrived cold, so we complained we didn't order rogan gosh and was told butter chicken will take only 3 minutes! Wow, good microwave job! my wife refused to take the 3 minute offer instead tried awful rogan gosh which seem microwaved.

They forget to give us half of the stuff we ordered. They also got next tables order completely wrong and got the correct microwave dish in 5 minutes. I don't know how people can write false review. I have eaten Indian food in London, Dubai and many places around the world including Australia, so I know my food well. This was the worse. If you want good quality/fresh Indian food try somewhere else in Surry Hills.

    Response from Management:
    Dear DeanAli,

This message is for all the readers of this review and for you specialy, I would like to apologise to all the readers if you find what ever written below is not appropriate. Please accept my apology but I for the first time have to take a stance to bring the truth in front.

I have always accepted all the criticism whether positive or negative and at Aalishaan we do our best to please our customers. This site is to leave the honest feedback and not for leaving biased and crap feedback which doesn't reflect the truth.

It was 14th February Valentine's Day and we were busy and no doubt we had people lined up out side our restaurant to get seated because we are popular for our taste and service. I would start with microwaving job. Please visit our kitchen next time and check yourself how we make curries, don't assume things. On one hand you are saying that you had to wait so long for your food (which is not a fact), on the other hand you accusing us of microwaving food. You know what its a good tip!!! But I am sorry we don't want to fool people.

In regards to your table, you didn't have any prior booking and our restaurant was full, so you were asked to wait for the table to become available. Your order was taken and your wife requested to have butter chicken to be made hot with green chillies in it. On what part of earth do you get butter chicken made hot I don't get it. If you would have dined in so many different restaurants all over the world then you should know the authenticity of Indian food. Your wife initially ordered Beef Roghan Josh then decided to change and then your wife was told that we can't make butter chicken hot and then she agreed to have Beef Roghan Josh, it was served to her so in reply to exaggeration of event, we didn't get the order wrong, you agreed to what you had. Then your wife all the time you were in the restaurant was very rude with our staff and you might have noticed that there was another table just next to you who praised our food and service in a loud voice "That was a comment so as your wife gets a message that she was being unreasonably rude".

You guys are from India but need to learn how to respect people and care for others who are dining in with you at the time, You are talking about a table of 6 walked off, true because they didn't have any booking and were seated without permission from our staff and by the time they were seated we had our guests who had booking arrived and we requested them to change the table but having same old mentality as yours they decided to walk off.

I would like to say to you that if you want to advertise other restaurants then why don't you just open an advertising business and stop using this website for your cheap publicity stunt. You talking about restaurant in Surry Hills then I would like to ask you to go into their restaurant and ask your wife to behave like a kid then see what response you get from them. Instead we offered you discount on your meals despite your wife was shouting at my staff when I came out and your wife upon seeing me didn't say anything and said everything is fine and gladly accepted discount plus total price cut on the roghan josh.

I am shocked to see how ungrateful and dishonest people can be, Just because of few people like you our minority in Australia is getting blamed for ruining peace in society.
I totally disagree with your review and would like you to be honest next time.

If you would have noticed in our restaurant we ask our customers to leave feedback in a scrapbook which is kept open on the counter for any one to review, please come to our restaurant to see what people think about us. We also have notices in our restaurant requesting our customers to leave their honest feedback on websites such as Eatability.

    Tips for you:

Have your booking done when you go to a restaurant on a busy day. Go to a restaurant where you get what you want to eat and they don't care in suggesting you what tastes nice.
Try butter chicken in any restaurant which is at least of some standard and not at a take away shop.
