This is one of my favourite pubs. I've eaten at the bistro a number of times and always have the tapas (which changes frequently but is always delicious). There's a choice of 4 different areas to sit in, all with a different feel to them. Drinks are less expensive than the city with house wine at about $5 I think.
I like pub for being a pub. As such you cannot go past the weeds considering three dollar house beers from 12-5pm. Take a friday arvo off work and go and start the weekend early. The service is good and the food in the restaurant itself is top notch.
Went for a weekday lunch, not the restaurant, the bistro, place was fairly busy. Be warned, go with plenty of cash! Schooner of super dry & a glass of 'house white' came close to $12. Ordered over the bar, chose the steak sandwich and battered flathead with chips. Considering, it's pretty hard to screw these up, both were tasty, well presented, but again pretty pricey for standard fare in a suburban pub. There are plenty of other pubs where you won't feel like you're being gouged, with much the same ambience, doing the same or a better job with their food.
Above average trendy set-up where you order at bar and pick-up from kitchen. Eating area is mainly benches with a few low tables. Predom. small sized and relatively expensive tapas/pizzas/sandwiches. Wine at high class restaurant prices, not bar prices, albeit a good selection. Very noisy, if you can get into the seating on the other side of the bar (smaller room) go for it!!
Great pub which you wish was around the corner from your house! It's a good formula to order the food at the bar and pick it up at the hatch into the kitchen. Nice selection on the menu. I had a steak sandwich which was great and the chips were fine too.
From the moment I stepped inside this hidden gem, I couldn't help but fall in love with it. A perfect blend of old and modern, shabby chic!!! The bar food was exceptional, however, the wine list by the glass can be upgraded a little, just a quick note, the bar in the back room provides a longer list of wine by the glass than the front bar. I'm surprised there was a review on some of the staff being rude, I found them to be very friendly and social. Overall, a great night out and a place that will remain in my mind as a brilliant first impression.
The interesting and hearty gastro pub fare at this well renovated and once buzzing bar has sadly declined. Small portions at $15+ per head require local office workers to have deep pockets.
Sampled the tapas on a recent visit, the asian flavoured squid sounded great, but tasted awful, possibly strips of carpet underlay with a dressing. Bread, dips and meatballs were good but lacked the greatness of previous days.
The beef and guinness pie is less beef and more veg and where has the delicious chicken liver parfait with toasted brioche gone? Ditto the salmon fishcakes. Surely the many yummy mummies taking over the back room would enjoy these?
The restaurant was in my top 3 in Sydney, but I'm reluctant to go back, given the food is from the same kitchen.
Went to the fine dining area for our quarterly girls dinner and could not fault it - excellent food and a good wine list - had the saltwater char which was wonderful - shared 2 desserts which were both great. The service was high quality and informative - will return again.
I do enjoy the selection of beers this pub has to offer but I'm afraid the good comments stop there. I had been there once before and had an enjoyable enough time to go back for my boyfriend’s birthday. We had booked one of the large tables and had quite a few people there for the evening, throughout which we were half sitting/standing around the table and bar area.
Now an extremely aggressive barman hassled us every time he walked past throwing comments to our group like "you need to keep this area clear" in a rather nasty tone and certainly no please's or thank you's. Now, this may come as a surprise to the 3 Weeds Pub, but people do tend to stand around a bar while talking and drinking. This point was noticed by and noted by almost every one of our friends during the evening, many of which stating a reluctance to go back.
So by the end of the evening, after spending a considerable amount of money in the pub, we were waiting for a friend to get out of the loo before heading off. We were again urged to get out, and when we told the staff we were just waiting for a friend, they go into the loo and start screaming at her to get out! Now I don’t know about you but having a staff member harass me in the loo at the end of a night is certainly not a polite way of asking you to leave!
Terrible way to end the evening, yes you may have had a long night behind the bar but considering we didn't see one ounce of good customer service the whole night especially after booking a table (not that that should matter). We certainly won't be irritating you with our presence again, staff and management at the 3 Weeds Pub.
A good place for a Sunday afternoon, or a weekend wind-down. Reasonably prompt, unfussy service, in a laid-back environment. We ate in the bar/bistro, the food was pretty good, we enjoyed the pies, but the tapas could have been a little more imaginative. The pizzas were enjoyable though, and the selection of cocktails is pleasingly different, we had a few rounds to taste most of them, well made, and reasonably priced as well. Not the cheapest venue, but certainly a comfortable one, you're getting what you pay for, as the food is definitely above average. We'll be back, especially when the weather turns cooler, to get rid of the Sunday afternoon blues!
