I've been here twice, the food was very good, the location is very nice, the service reasonably prompt and friendly but it is very expensive hence the reason I've only been here twice.
But if you want to impress someone, this would the place to go, it's one of those places you have to go to say you've been there and tried it. The restrooms are pretty special too. The valet parking is handy too which is $20 who cares when you're spending this much already. We will be back but not too soon.
Visited restaurant for birthday dinner and it was a great evening. Other than for the lady who showed us to the table (who acted if she was doing us a favour), we had a wonderful evening. Food was great, excellent service and lovely view. Would definitely return.
The signature dish of seared yellow fin tuna with sweet crackling pork and ruby grapefruit was amazing. So many different textures and flavours. The mains were good, but not as memorable. Ambience is spectacular, and the outside bar area is perfect for cocktails and a view of the harbour.
They are good but are now, unfortunately, really milking it. $48 for a dozen oysters? The outside table where we had pre dinner drinks was filthy and had not been wiped down from the previous group the night before. My first 3 choices of wine were all "out of stock".
We went there for my dad's birthday and the six of us ordered the degustation menu. Now, my mother is normally not a big eater and she was hungry at the end of this meal. The tuna wasn't entirely fresh and the food was fairly ordinary for the prices we were paying. The redeeming factor was the dessert, which was fantastic and delicious. Our bill came to over 800 dollars, and for that kind of money, there are far better restaurants.
Went there for a work function. The ambience and food was great, however, the service was ordinary especially when we were charged a surcharge for a group larger than 8 (there was 10 of us). While the wait staff was attentive when we got hold of them, I thought it was quite ordinary to have to ask to get your glass filled up. I also thought it was a bit on the pricey side, I wouldn't go back there if I had to pay for it.
We had a fantastic meal at the beginning of June, a Sunday lunch where we tried the Seafood Degustation menu. An amazing and varied range of dishes arrived and kept on coming, our leisurely lunch lasted 4 hours! Our table upstairs had a fantastic view and all the staff seemed to know the dishes well. My food allergy was dealt with reasonably well with a dish substituted for another of my choice, though one dish arrived containing the allergen but it was taken away and redone immediately.
I had no complaint with the portions (either size or number) and would say that the Degustation looked to be far better value than the individual dishes, which, according to the menu we saw, did look pretty pricey. I don’t drink but wasn’t pressured to do so by the sommelier and the 2 non alcoholic cocktails I had were nice enough. It is expensive, but certainly on the day we visited I would rank it higher than others. We’d go back in a shot but will have to save up first!
The views are fantastic from this restaurant at the end of the pier..if you get a table that has views. There is a public parking across from the pier on Pirrama Road. We didn't order wine because it starts at $70 person. I noticed that the table next to us BYO'd. The wine starts at $135/bottle as far as we could see from the menu. The interior looks like a barn converted into a restaurant.
I had the tapas for $33 and there was approximatly 4 postage sized pieces of fish on a large white plate. The serviings were so small that I couldn't cut them in half. My husband had the scallops....$36 for 3 scallops. The scallaps came with a cauliflower panna cotta, a white streak on the plate about a thimble full. If you want to know what everything tasted like...I couldn't tell ya...because there wasn't enough food to masticate long enough to really be sure.
The mains were a little bit larger but my John Dory was repeated in the tapas and now that there was a nearly a full fillet, I can tell you that it was delicous but not filling. There was a thin streak of fluid that served as the fennel, bean and almond accompaniment but there was no way to tell what this was as it was liquified.
I imagine that a few men got together over a cheap bottle of wine, (saying 'if we owned a restaurant ...bet we could have sold this bottle of wine for $135') ...and we could sell the smallest portions of food for the highest price we could get away with...(obviously, they are getting away with it! )
3 of us $500 including tip. The sommelier kept recommending $135 wines when I had already made it clear we did not want to spend that much money. Overall it was an expensive and unspectacular evening.
