Parking Suggestions
Mulu Char has limited parking at the rear of the building. Alternative, plenty of street parking available or park at Cotton Tree and stroll around the river. Big Top shopping center is an alternative as well.
Feel immersed in the spirit of Africa surrounded by artwork, original artifacts and African music. Mulu Char offers live entertainment, featuring some of the Sunshine Coast's best musicians with each vocalist's style enhancing the warm atmosphere.
Mulu Char is a contemporary twist on the classic steakhouse and like the atmosphere, the menu is anything but traditional.
The spectacular new setting offers sophisticated casual dining and from the moment you walk in you feel the ambiance of a Char restaurant. With African inspired decor, guests enjoy relaxing amongst the restaurants hard structural materials and viewing the many artifacts that Africa is admired for.
The grill is the centerpiece of the menu with superior prime cuts of meat, yet we cater for all tastes with a selection of seafood, chicken, vegetarian and African specialties.
Gluten free alternatives available.

Mulu Char is now our regular dining spot, we have been there for lunch three times which was excellent value and so delicious, and just last week for dinner which again was soon tasty. My husband likes his steak rare and Mulu Char is only one of two places on the coast that has got a perfect rare to us. The actual steak is so flavoursome. I am going again tomorrow for the two course lunch special.
Ps. staff are always polite and friendly...
pps the bread that comes with the lunch time soup is so yummy.

Very disappointing night, the food was dry and tasteless, the service was the worst I have had on the sunshine coast. I will be telling everyone I know not to go to Mulu Char. I am shocked the owners let it be managed like it is.

We visited the Mulu Char restaurant for our wedding anniversary with no expectations. The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous and the atmosphere was lively, no need to whisper at each other over the table! Very dissapointed with the oyster entree and I've never met an oyster I couldn't eat! After bringing this to the managers attention, a fresh plate of (slightly more edible) oysters were served. After a bad start, we enjoyed the most amazing steaks for our main meal with a delicious bottle of red wine and left feeling very well looked after and satisfied with our choice of venue for the night. Thanks.

We loved the atmosphere and decor in this new restaurant, the owners have created a wonderful place for a dining experience, enhanced by an African drummer with a beautiful voice. Our meals were cooked to perfection, the highlight being the prawns for entree and the steaks and ribs for main. We will surely return, Kerrie

We arrived to find the booking I had made was not listed, even after droping in the previous day to reconfirm our booking. Staff were very unhelpful and reluctantly directed us to a table that had not been set up and was not set until our meals arrived. Drink lists appeared and we ordered a castle beer a Mojito and a magarita. The drink waitress reappeared to inform us that they had no Castle beer and not all the ingredients to make the Mojito and she also split the Margarrita whilst carrying it to the table. Our food orders were taken for the 4 of us and our meals came out individually rather than all together. My steak had so much gristel I could only eat part of it and when the bill came we had been charged for items we had not ordered. When asked how the meal was I explaned how unsatisfied I was and the response was I will tell the chef. I would not recommend this resturant to anyone, overall a very disappointing evening for something so overpriced.
Response from Management:
Vaughan,
We are disappointed to hear of your experience at Mulu Char. It is a shame that you went directly online to voice your bad experience rather than contact us directly, as we like to address any concerns personally and promptly. However, we will address these issues immediately with our staff and ask you to contact us directly by email or contacting the Restaurant with your name and number for us to welcome you back to Mulu Char for the experience you deserve.
With regard to the loss of your booking, I can only follow up with my Supervisor as to what happened as this has never happened before. I am surprised to hear that the staff did not inform you upon seating you that we did not have specific drinks for that evening as this is our policy at Mulu Char, whether it be meals or drinks. As most of our meals are served on wooden boards, occasionally the staff can only carry 1 meal out at a time. Hence the reason your meals came out individually. I assume you all ate at the same time.
We pride ourselves in the quality of the meat. If there was an issue with your steak and you addressed your concern early enough, the staff would have replaced it or offered you an alternative. It is our policy and our pride to ensure that all customers have enjoyed their meals and do not leave the restaurant disappointed and reading your review, it seems your meal was the only issue at the table. With regard to the bill, we did have a new staff member working and it is possible she mixed tables through the computer, however, I know that the error was happily corrected once pointed out.
Again, I'm sorry your personal experience at Mulu Char was disappointing. We hope you contact us so we can show you how it us usually done at Mulu Char.
Regards
Management

Well, we arrived at Mulu Char by default having arrived at a previously booked restaurant to find they were closed, they forgot (Public Hol)...that's another story.
Undercover off street parking at the rear on a quiet night, we were offered inside or out seating and we chose to sit outside looking out over Cornmeal Creek to the park in Cotton Tree. A simple dining setting more cafe style with comfortable backed chairs.
The service was next to perfect with an experienced lady very familiar with African cuisine. We chose, Cape Malay lamb curry served in South Africa’s traditional potjie pot with diced tomato, cucumber, fresh banana and a side of rice and the Ethiopian spiced lentil wot served with rice and injera. The curry was surprisingly mild as the inclusion of the cucumber and banana suggested otherwise. Very hard to find faults in the food and would gladly go back and reorder the same dishes!

We visted recently for our staff xmas party, and found the service quite good. Considering it is a steak restaurant we were not that impressed with the steaks, they were a bit tough. It was very hot the day we dined, they needed air conditioning. We had a great time never the less and enjoyed the casual and interesting atmosphere and great cocktails. Meals were reasonably good value and the outlook is fabulous.
