Situated on the first floor of 'Beachfront Towers' you could easily miss this family owned and operated restaurant which offers a modest decor and very friendly service. I ordered one of the chefs specials, a main of squid ink tortellini stuffed with Moreton Bay Bug meat, Ricotta and Pecorino cheeses and a touch of mint. The Neopolitan tomato sauce didn't enhance the fresh pasta and I wished a garlic cream sauce had been paired with it instead.

My partner ordered the 'Gamberi al forno', oven baked fresh king prawns marinated with garlic, parsley, lemon, olive oil served on a bed of saffron risotto ($32) and the large prawns were very fresh, presentation was great too.

A white chocolate baked cheesecake was rich and smooth. On a Thursday night the restaurant was hosting what were obviously regular and holidaymakers there for a repeat visit which speaks for itself. I'm keen to come back myself and try the duck cannelloni and Linguine De Mare.

Edit: Have returned twice since our first visit. The 'Home baked' pizza bread with garlic or herbs ($8), presented as a medium sized pizza base brushed with olive oil and topped with a massive amount of chopped garlic, so much so that the taste was 'hot' (as it is when consuming basically raw garlic) and thus, it overwhelmed our main course, our tastebuds were shot.

For mains my dining partner chose the 'Risotto ai frutti di mare' - Carnaroli rice cooked with fresh seafood ($28), which was enjoyed although my taste of it proved quite bland (even after the garlic!). In comparison, my 'Cannelloni all'anatra' - Homemade cannelloni filled with a blend of fresh duck, porcini mushrooms, fresh herbs oven baked with bechamel and fresh tomato salsa ($27) displayed no bechamel which may have offset the 'raw' taste of tomato sadly overwhelming the dish, so much so that the minced duck could have been any meat (I have full trust that it was duck though). What a shame!

On the third visit we both ordered 'Gamberi al forno' again - Oven baked fresh king prawns marinated with garlic, parsley, lemon, olive oil served on a bed of saffron risotto ($32) and whilst I found the risotto slightly bitter (too much saffron?!) the prawns were large (head/tail on otherwise peeled), juicy and very fresh.

Service on every occasion was personable, intelligent and friendly with staff recognising us, a huge reason why so many locals are obviously returning again and again (each table entering on both occasions was treated as well as ourselves).

Overall, we like Cala Luna for their old fashioned genuine family owned and operated venue and service (also that they always have nightly specials and use fresh ingredients). However, the food is to our minds fairly expensive for what is basically trattoria-style comfort food.
