Cafe 45 is a well-run cafe with an emphasis is on fresh, flavoursome food. From cakes to main meals - everything is made on the premises. James only serves local/ Aussie seafood. As well as the printed menu, there's a blackboard listing daily specials such as Thai prawn salad ($16.50) - a zingy combination of veggies, Mooloolaba prawns & rice noodles in an Asian inspired dressing with fresh lime. Light, tasty & a perfect lunch for a sunny day. As was the fresh local fish with chips & salad (also $16.50) - this day local Mahi Mahi fillets in a Japanese Panko style citrus breadcrumb, fried to golden with crunchy chips, a colourful salad & creamy tartare sauce for dipping that didn't taste commercial. Nasi goreng with a fried egg on top ($12.50) or caesar salad with salt & pepper prawns & squid were other offerings. The most expensive items were $16.50 - foccacias, paninis & burgers with chicken or home made meat patties around the $10 mark. Service was efficient & food served with a smile. Very popular with local workers & it's not hard to understand why. Breakfast menu reads well, lunch served until 3 pm or drop in for a coffee & home-made cake after hitting nearby Sunshine Plaza.

We first discovered Cafe 45 while visiting one of the nearby shops and stopped for coffee and muffins. The muffins were delicious and we have made several repeat visits, trying the lunch menu also. We have enjoyed the burgers so much, vegeburger for myself and various meat burger for my husband, that we haven't tried anything else on the menu. The cafe isn't open on Saturday or Sunday though.

Well my review of this Cafe has ended up as an 'overview' as this little gem wasn't listed on Eatability. No matter! I re-visited again today and we enjoyed the fresh fish and chips as mentioned above. However, I was torn, as the daily blackboard menu also offered Mooloolaba Prawn and Crab Spring Rolls with salad and Nasi (Goreng) Rice for $14.50 or you could have the Nasi Goreng topped with salt and pepper squid for the same price.
A beef lasagne and also a chicken lasagne today with salad etc. (again $14.50). Delightful looking cakes again in the cabinet, same friendly service and of course James. He told me he's making the Prawn and Crab Spring Rolls again tomorrow so I may well have to return.
