Courier-Mail Food & Wine Guide 2011 - One Star
ba Vigo is a restaurant and lounge bar situated overlooking the park in Cotton Tree. It first opened its door in 2004. The cuisine is Modern Spanish with seafood as the star. Their tantalizing menu’s popular choices include tapas, cocas and homemade ice cream. They have a good wine list and Spanish beers to match the dishes in the a la carte menu.
The owners of ba Vigo clearly love Spain as it is finely reflected in the cuisine, the service and the décor of the restaurant. The diverse mix of recycled timber, 50’s Italian furniture and clean contemporary lines make for a relaxed and elegant dining setting at ba Vigo.

Have had a gutful of ordinary Spanish tapas here in Melbourne and disappointing selections of Spanish wines. In Cottontree, at last some real Spanish food and outstanding wines, perfect service (helpful, informative, unobtrusive, friendly and near outstanding cuisine.

Having been overseas for 3 years returned to what used to be one of my favourite restaurants. We admit, having lived in Portugal/Spain, we were spoilt when it came to Tapas so we truly didn't expect it to be to authentic standard. However, despite the tuna with salsa verde and the Fraser Island Prawns with Aioli sounding delicious, we were, sadly, disappointed.
The tuna and the salsa verde were dry. Also the prawns were dry. The spices used worked, but both the tuna and prawns were overcooked. Each dish consisted of a mere two pieces and at $13-$14 each were expensive compared to other fantastic entree dishes we've had in other Sunshine Coast restaurants. I opted for an entree sized Blue Swimmer Crab Linguini, thinking this would be safe. It had always been my favourite dish.
In all my 49 years I've maybe returned 2 or 3 dishes. The Linguini were so super salty, they were inedible. My partner tried them and he loves salty dishes and couldn't swallow the fork full I gave him! The 2nd attempt was less salty but the crab and spices were burnt. I ate some of it as I was starving by then. My partner had a scallop dish which he was happy with (also entree size).
The service was friendly enough but unprofessional. My partner asked for a drink without ice. He received ice! When I asked for a Chai Latte, I received a puzzled look with the comment "we have Chai tea I think but not as latte" I then ordered a Baileys on the Rocks instead. The Baileys was already watered down by the time I received it as it had been put on crushed ice. We don't mind paying for good food and service but paying $130 for this disappointing experience left a further bitter taste in our mouths. Will not be returning.

Wow, love the food, service and ambience. World class food that explores the other side of Spanish food. Will be back.

Top stuff. Great flavours and ideas for dishes. We tried most of the tapas and loved them all. I wouldn't be able to say whether it was authentic Spanish food but it was certainly done to a very high standard.

Beautiful food. But I wish they had more traditional Spanish food on the menu as opposed to the modern Australian twist. But, great tastes all the same. Missing the Sangria on the menu for the true Spanish cuisine experience.

I'm a pretty fussy food reviewer, but Ba Vigo totally surpassed my expectations. Delicious food, not particularly cheap, but still basically worth the money. The garlic and Rosemary bread we had for an entree was divine, as were the lamb, and pumpkin pizzas we ate for dinner. Can't wait to go back!

Simple, superb food. Every dish is carefully thought out, each flavour balanced and wisely used. The food is healthy, filling and well crafted. It's where I take special guests and know it will be a delightful experience.

What a lovely restaurant and a very welcome surprise in the area. After almost giving up hope of finding a delicious meal we stumbled across Ba Vigo and had a memorable meal (the crisp skinned Barramundi in particular, and the mint ice cream accompanying the choc cake) and excellent Spanish red wine. The staff were attentive and knowledgeable, the surroundings serene and beautiful.
