Quick, clean, cheap and decent food, what more could you ask for really? I've read some of the below reviews and while I agree this isn't the most authentic vietnamese place on Victoria Parade, it's one of my favorites because of the above. I could live on their vego rice paper rolls!

We were very disappointed. The food wasn't terrible, but bland and too boring to finish. The service was over enthusiastic (three waiters tried to serve us) but forgot to bring out half our order. It was too loud to talk. However, it is cheap, clean and the meals were brought out fast.

My new favourite restaurant in Melbourne. I have been to Tran Tran once before, for a friend’s birthday, and haven’t had a chance to come back until last weekend. I was amazed with its new interior. Tran Tran recently underwent a huge renovation, with a modern and trendy layout, yet still with a friendly vibe. I can honestly say that I have found my new favourite restaurant in Melbourne. If you are like me, and like super friendly and fast serves, a modern and trendy interior with a very reasonable price, then I would highly recommend it.

Tran Tran is a fantastic feed in a great part of Richmond. Food has always been well priced and very good. You can BYO and be as loud as you like, they do a fantastic surprise birthday treat for patrons which is absolutely extraordinary!

I’m from Sydney and went down to Melbourne for the weekend with my partner. Upon reading the positive reviews from Eatability, I decided to dine at Tran Tran Restaurant.

When we arrived at the restaurant it was ¾ full so we thought we were onto a winner.

How wrong were we!

I am from a Vietnamese background and quite experienced in eating Vietnamese cuisine. The menu consisted of la-carte dishes with not much traditional dishes on it. It was very disappointing!

We ordered spring rolls, asparagus and crab soup, beef with garlic, ginger, chili and veggies and chicken with chili and vegetables accompanied with steamed rice. The food was very westernized and does not give you a taste of authentic Vietnamese food. Also the restaurant décor did not reflect the Vietnamese culture. There was an image of the Egyptian pyramids!

For me, a real Vietnamese experience would consist of cutlery and sauces on the table, Vietnamese décor and a menu which reflects a wide selection of soup/noodles/rice dishes.

The main drag in Richmond is full of Vietnamese restaurant so there is plenty to choose from. My advice would be to walk along and see who is actually dining in the restaurant. If a Vietnamese looking person is dining in the restaurant, it’s a winner. For the record, I was the only “Asian” diner at Tran Tran restaurant.

The food is great and I have been many times, although I have found that the service is very slow. Sometimes it is hard to even get someone to place a order. But the food is worth it. My only major complaint is that when the restaurant is full you can not hear anyone talk due to the noise.

Great restaurant. Licensed or BYO. Decor is nothing special, (they are going to redecorate in a couple of months) but the place really buzzes. We knew nothing about Vietnamese food when we went along recently with some friends who knew the place. So we put ourselves in the owner's (Loc) hands and were treated to a series of great dishes, which we shared.

They have genuine Vietnamese dishes, as well as an assortment of more generic dishes with which most of us are familiar. The one thing they all have in common is they are delicious. For example, fried rice. Nothing special there, they all taste the same right? Wrong! The Fried Rice at Tran Tran has a smoky taste that makes it special. Their Mongolian Beef is superb, and so was everything else we tried.

The prices are very reasonable, we thought they had made a mistake when we got our bill, expecting to pay more. And the service is great. If someone in your party is having a birthday, tell Loc when you get there, and he'll arrange a "special" birthday dessert (very funny for the unsuspecting recipient but only if they are reasonably broad minded).

We're going back next week, to celebrate a friend's birthday (yes, she's getting the special dessert).

This is our favourite restaurant. Jenny and Loc (and their staff) provide great service every time. The food is alway sensational, and well priced. Highly recommended.

The food is fast and very fresh. Will be going back. The ambience could be greatly improved with the installation of a dimmer switch to their bright downlights. This blinding brightness definitely kills the atmosphere. Otherwise, a definite gem amongst Victoria Street.
