Overview of Tien Dat

Tien Dat was the first Vietnamese restaurant in Box Hill on the Carrington Road strip. It serves various traditional Vietnamese dishes essentially influenced by the flavours of North Vietnamese cuisine.

Established in 1983, Tien Dat has maintained its reputation as one of the busiest 'go to' restaurants if you're craving for fresh and straightforward Vietnamese food. Crowd pleasers include pho or beef noodle soup, goi cuon or rice paper rolls, cha gio or spring rolls and the salted peppered squid.

Tien Dat has a lot space—three dining areas both upstairs and downstairs and an outdoor section which is also sheltered and heated for customers' convenience. Bookings are essential especially on Fridays and Saturdays as it can get really crowded. Takeaway service is also available.

The quality of the mains is up there. Good solid cooking.

The problems: they are too tight arsed on everything. From the service, to the serving of rice and the tea. I was practically drinking just hot water. Ask for a serving of rice for 4 and you'll get the equivalent of rice for 2 from any other restaurant.

Get take away and cook the rice at home.

Great food, beautifully fresh and consistent. Busy bustling atmosphere, but staff always attentive and cheerful. We are regulars and tell our friends.

The thing that makes me a regular at this restaurant is the great food and value for money. Some of my favourite dishes include the red beef curry and the sizzling prawns. This is the first restaurant in Box hill I go to, closely followed by Indochine. Making a booking is wise, and you can still BYO which is great if you're coming with a few friends.

One of my favourite places to eat. Great for takeaway, but the service for eating in can be a bit hit or miss, as they are often very busy. Food is always cooked perfectly and seems very fresh, servings are generous and reasonably priced.

I have eaten here many times over the years and have always left satisfied. You can always guarantee the food will be fresh and excellent quality. At times service can leave a bit to be desired as staff are always run off their feet and are keen to keep diners moving to get a second sitting in. If you can ignore this and enjoy the great food for low prices then Tien Dat is a must!

This restaurant is good for people not properly acquainted with Asian food. i.e. it's a bit of an Anglo style Asian restaurant. The food was tasty though but a bit expensive compared to similar dishes in Victoria Street.
