Good steak house, was quite surprised by the quality of the steak and how well it was prepared. Most steaks average around $45 and the New York Strip (500g) was cooked to medium rare perfection. The wine list is perhaps a bit short and a bit marked up, but if you want a great steak then it is highly recommended.
Only downside was table service which was a bit slow. Slow to take an order, slow to bring out the wine, but a bit too quick to clear us out.
This place had far too much "cow". The walls were lined with cow hide and the chairs were quite obnoxiously leather. However, for a meat company, I can accept this. Honestly, I don't like red meat or wine. My visit was to try out this relatively new establishment, as I frequently dine out.
The outside area seems a bit glum for during the day. Now, for someone who doesn't like red meat, and for some reasons, ordered the cheese burger, I was pretty happy! The meat was flavoursome and had that real "flame grilled" taste. The chips and onion rings were a fantastic addition and for around $17 I thought it was well-priced. The caprioska's I had were THE BEST I HAVE EVER TRIED - not too bitter. The Pina Colada was a bit too frothy.
The overall price (for two people) was less than I anticipated, as we were both drinking lots of cocktails and wine. I was also suprised to receive a voice mail message the next day from someone making sure we had a great time and to contact them with any feedback... a little bizarre, but friendly, none the less. Overall, quite happy. The skewers looks very cool - the way they served it - it's an a-ok place!
Had the shrimp & steak skewer. Meat is cooked well done which is not to my liking (that seems to be how they cook beef). Very friendly service people. Salads are served same time as meal. Enjoyed the atmosphere, next time I will try fish & chips, they looked really good.
Was in a VIP room on 18 Dec for lunch. The male member of staff who looked after us was perfect - exactly the right level of very professional service. Menu is very varied and the food tastes and looks good. I went for the chicken breasts which wasn't maybe the best choice for a steak house - the steak looked second to none.
Very nice place. The ambience upstairs was perfect for our family birthday dinner of 4 (all adults). The premium steak were cooked exactly as ordered. The lamb shank and pork ribs were great as well. The pistachio something and brownie desserts were excellent. It's not overly expensive, under $100 a head all up is reasonable for a special occasion. Service was attentive and the waitress does know her steaks.
We enjoyed this place, the food was simple and well cooked (the price is getting up there though) and the service was friendly and efficient. Had to hail a waitress for a refill but that's ok, not complaining. My soup was tasty with a good balance of flavours, my steak main was cooked perfectly, and my partner enjoyed hers as much as me. The cheeseboard finished the evening perfectly. Basically, nice food, high price.
Great dishes (the steak + prawn skewers are highly recommended!) and a cool chic atmosphere upstairs (which is worth visiting even just for a drink). Friendly staff, but quite pricey. Also a little cold downstairs in the bitter Melbournian cold/wind! If you're coming here, I definitely recommend booking a table somewhere near a heater - you'll need it in winter!
The food was not marvelous, only because the entrees (Beef Carpaccio + Salt & Pepper Calamari) were good (although they were out of Chargrilled Baby Octopus Salad, which was actually what I wanted in the first place), but the mains was disastrous (Catch of the day - Steamed Ocean Trout with Fennel, Onion & Rocket salad + Kangaroo Filet), and desserts (Apple & Rhubarb Crumble + Chocolate & Pistachio Fondante) was nothing to brag about. I understand that they specialise in steaks but to have undercooked fish is just out of the question. But the friendly and somewhat attentive service of our waiter just barely made it a pleasant meal. Maybe I really should've just stuck to the steaks, then again, they might as well just call it The Steak & Wine Co.
