Very, very disappointing. I wish I had read these reviews before I took a party of 10.
The service did not exist, the $35 banquet only included bread and dips and 2 lamb skewers. We were so hungry we had to go to another restaurant on the way home. When we asked for more food they said the kitchen was closed. There was no belly dancing show which had been promised and a very poor excuse! Please don't waste your money!

We book for a large group for my 30th and chose the banquet option so of course we were really excited about going. However once we arrived we were quick to realise we should not have booked at Kilim!
There was little to no service or drink orders taken as there was only two very unfriendly staff working. After waiting for an hour for drinks we gave in went to a bottle shop down the street to buy wine for the group. The air con in the room didn't work, the belly dancer was there for 10 minutes, and there was hardly any food served during the main course.
The main consisted of two small over cooked skewers each, onion salad with cous cous. When everyone was still hungry we were told that it was the end of the night and that it would only be getting a two course dinner (no dessert offered) but that we'd have the privilege of paying not $29pp as quoted but $35pp plus corkage.
Over all a very very disappointing experience to say the least. My kebab on the way home was more satisfying.

Kilim provided a group of 35 people with a night of hilarity. The service was so poor that it was a joke. Not only did we starve during the banquet ($35 per head for a bits of bread and dip and 2 skewers of poor quality meat.) but we got charged for corkage when we helped ourselves to glasses, opened our own bottles and poured our own drinks.
We were originally quoted $29 per head for the banquet and an additional $15 per head for a drinks package for 2 hours. We were then told on our arrival that the cost was now $35 per head for the banquet and $30 for the drinks package. The restaurant manager lied through her teeth telling us that she had called us and confirmed the prices which never happened.
We were then expected to pay cash when there were credit card facilities available.
We were in a sweat box of a room which was in the Turkish theme yet dusty and dirty. The Air Con only heated the room. Dinner was at 7pm and we didn't get our 2 skewers of meat until 930pm. We didn't receive our Baklava and turkish delight dessert at all.
It was the worst restaurant experience I personally have ever had.

This could possibly be the worst dining experience I've had in Melbourne. This restaurant lacked any character or service and the food was less than mediocre. It made us wonder why the owners would bother running a restaurant if they lacked such obvious passion and energy for the place.
We were the only ones there (which is a sure indicator for a Saturday night) and the waitress took 10 minutes to wander out to us once we'd arrived (even after we did our own search around the restaurant). We had to get our own drinks and glasses, the seafood platter wasn't available, which left us with a choice of meat or vegetables and there was none of the entertainment that was advertised.
Seriously don't bother. There are too many other restaurants in Melbourne that are worth your time and money.

The waiter was completely stoned from the get go. I will never dine here again.

Unfortunately, after my recent dining experience at ‘The Kilim’ I cannot recommend this restaurant. It was very disappointing for a number of reasons, including the service was poor, unfriendly and inattentive. The website is misleading, what you pay for is not what you get! Beware! We had the meat banquet and did not receive any dessert which was stated as being included in the price and there was also no belly dancer either.
If you expect to leave the venue full and satisfied you won’t. The food was minimal and most people were left hungry, there was not even one of each meat skewer per person and bread was two small bite size squares each. The only positive was the ability to have your own separate dining area, but when the service and food is sub-standard then this is really outweighed.

The Kilim was a big disappointment. I understand that restaurants are trying to be different and authentic but they also have to bare in mind that hygiene comes first and in this case The kilim has hit the rock bottom.
I went there on a weekend night and they had banquet dinner. The food was pre-made and the meat that I had on my plate was simply re-heated in microwave but they didn't leave it long enough for the fat underneath to melt. So after I ate warm meat I discovered orange fat that was simply glued to the plate.
The plates are stainless steel and it looked like they have been just dipped in the water. I would certainly not return to this place and will not recommend it to anyone I know. The service was ok, but they kept bringing wrong orders to tables. Belly dancing was good. Ambience is awful!
