My absolute favourite place to have breakfast when on business trips to Melbourne. Warning, even at 8am it can be packed, so arrive earlier or make a reservation.

I had been to this restaurant several times over the last 8 years. This visit was disappointing. Three of four main dishes were quite ordinary, with meat too chewy for this type of price.

Service was not what I remember (we had to ask for bread, only three glasses provided for four patrons, had to repeatedly ask for another). There are far better restaurants in Melbourne at this price range and would not go again.

Bircher muesli, breakfast bruschetta and toast: service is lovely, food is fine. If you're contemplating breakfast at The European, Fresh Bread says do it.

Went there twice in a day. Breakfast first up had mushroom bruschetta it was fab. Then late night supper food was great also love that they are open so late 3 am and the ambience so adds to the experience. Service at night was first class by the guys, however, the girls at breakfast missed our coffee order twice hmmm. Will be back and have found my new breakfast spot in Melbourne.

Had lunch here recently, my first time here. I suspect for regulars this place would be like an old friend, it has that sort of feel, familial, well worn tables and chairs, a sense of knowing exactly what you are going to get.

The room is quite "tight" and elbow room is in short supply but generally it has a good atmosphere and is a good place to be for a while. Service was really friendly and at the same time very professional. The specials list is extensive so I am guessing this place has enough new dishes to make each visit slightly different from the last.

Food was generally very good. We started with a mixture of the antipasta plates. You could tell immediately that this place uses quality ingredients. I had whiting fillet for main and it was well cooked and tasty. Prices seem pretty good here for the standard you get.

I rate it above all of these except Il Bacaro and Florentinos and it is good alternative to either of those. If you like a traditional european flavor to your restaurants then this is a pretty good option.

I had dinner here on a Wednesday night. It is a bustling, informal and friendly place. The food is delicious, with a varied menu and good wine list. Service is informal but respectful. It's a bit noisy, but this is not a barrier to conversation. I had the John Special with European Chef's Salad ... delicious. I recommend this place. Good value, I am happy to pay for a very nice experience and such good quality food and service.
