A tiny sliver of Bangkok in Brunswick Street is Thaila Thai. This place is bustling, from a frenzied brew in the kitchen to the animated staff waiting to seat you and take your orders. Takeaway or dine in, Thaila Thai can be counted on for good and cheap Thai food. Vegetarian options are available along with beef, pork, chicken, seafood and tofu regulars.
Don't expect a quiet romantic evening at Thaila Thai, eating with groups though is a great experience here. The hustle and bustle just like a typical Friday night in Bangkok is perfect for enjoying chicken satays, curries and stir fries. Servings are generous and meant for sharing.

Pre order your meal the night before for take away, would like to go back but just don't have a spare 45 minutes to wait, on top of that they were rude, and stuffed up other customers orders. Won't bother again.

Delicious food, especially peanut curry and beef fried rice. The food is always fresh and the chef always gives you a smile and a wave. Great place for kids too.

Excellent satay chicken skewers, the sauce was sensational. As for the lemongrass and chili fish stir-fry, the fish itself was delicious but the vegetables had a charred taste and there was no hint of lemongrass. The beef pad thai was a little lacking in flavour and could have done with more veggies, there was just spring onion.
Service was friendly. The head chef waved hello and goodbye. I might go back to try a curry but not before trying the other Thai place on Lygon St in Carlton.

I have heard people rave about this place, so I thought I would give it a go recently. The service was average and same with the food. The place is very busy and the take away line is out the door! The food comes out pretty quick and they are huge servings, some might say great value for money. I would rather great quality than quantity any day of the week though. Nothing special here, there are far better Thai places to eat at. A little disappointing to be honest. Still trying to work out what the fuss is all about!

We decided to try this restaurant due to the many favourable reviews that we have read about it, including references to large portion sizes and unbelievable value. Desperate to find a Thai restaurant that we would return to, we pinned much hope on Thaila Thai, but that was diminished quickly enough. The stir-fry we had ordered was of the large portion reported by many, but, unfortunately, was charred and, hence, possessed a burnt flavour.
To compound, vegetables were too roughly cut. The point of a stirfry is to have bite-size pieces, especially vegetables, so that they would cook quickly. The other main, a lamb curry, was the saving grace. Slow-cooked to perfection, the dish burst full of flavour. The downside to this dish, however, and as we have observed with curry dishes, is that the portion is barely enough for two persons. A stark disproportion to the stir-fry.
Overall, I would say the food is average, the service brisk, and even despite a tab of just $28, I would think twice about revisiting.

No other Thai restaurant does Peanut Curry, yep not sauce Curry!, this place is fantastic. I've never waited more than 10 minutes to be served. The food is fresh every time and sooo cheap. I travel 30 minutes to get take away and never leave disappointed!. Everyone must try it at least once. Oh and the staff work like crazy to accommodate you! Hands down to all the staff at Thaila Thai. You're amazing!

What more can you say, it is always great. The only down side is the wait, and sometimes when I am waiting for takeaway (over an hour sometimes even when called ahead) I feel like jumping over the counter and telling the register girl to get it organised. They need to find a better system for the till, maybe have 2, one for T/A and another for the tables. It just seems like they waste alot of time with that, but other than that it hasn't stopped me going back. New bigger kitchen and upstairs is great. Love the head chef, always gives a wave, that's great customer service.

Lower than average food taste. Food ordered: mixed satay, tomyum soup and padthai. All served at room temperature. What made it worst was the bland taste. Other restaurant at Lygon, Carlton would be better any day if cheap thai food is what you are after.

No cards, no splits, no booking at a time to suit you. No necking, no small orders, and if you linger too long over coffee, no you. How can a restaurant get away with being so tyrannical?, (thinking music) ah, exactly. The food really is that good, and that cheap. Just the thought of those satays has me dribbling right now. Go ahead and join the hordes of cowed and obedient diners, you won't be disappointed.
