As visitors from Sydney we were led to believe (from the tourist brochures and internet sites) that the Footscray dining strip boasted a selection of good restaurants. But what a disappointment it turned out to be! Just a few dodgy-looking eateries, most empty or half empty on a quiet Tuesday night.

Thai was the only one which had more than a handful of diners, so we figured it was probably the best one, or the least worst. In fact it was quite full and we were lucky to get a table at about 7.00 pm. But we were glad that we choose it because Thai serves fresh and tasty food in a pleasant atmosphere.

We had the chicken and a vegetarian dish. The veggies were crunchy and the chicken was full of delicate authentic Thai flavours. Servings were generous and the large bowl of rice was easily enough for two people.

Decor and table settings are modest and unpretentious. The plain furniture not much to write home about, but we didn’t mind as we were pleased to find a half decent place in this gloomy street. Service was polite and efficient.

The bill came to a reasonable $48 for two dishes and rice. But overall though we left feeling full and satisfied. Next time we’re in Melbourne, we’ll head back to this place.

The foods are really nice just like what we had in Thailand when we order the basil stirfried and green curry chicken althought this was much less oil as we got in Thailand. The service was really nice and the staff were quite friendly.

We live nearby and go here maybe once a month. The service is wonderful, very friendly and gracious. I love the food. Others have complained it's not "real Thai", and I can't comment on that except that I like the food and they always make it to the degree of 'hot' or "mild" that we request. The green Thai curry is probably my favourite. I find it to be an excellent place for a lovely meal, not expensive. If you are a frequent customer you even 'earn' a bottle of wine after every so many visits!

Food is said to be genuine thai. Don't think so. But what I did have was lovely. Decore is Gordy but acceptable. Service was good. BYO is good. Parking a bit of a problem. One of the better places in the area. Would recommend.

First time I went here, I ordered a simple green curry, howeve,r a received a badly presented stir fry. Upon returning my meal the waiter asked me if I wanted to eat the stir fry instead of my original order!. The food is not Authentic thai and definitely has a Western Palate. Friends have had similar problems from both dine in and take away. Highly recommend Thonglor 55.

After hearing much hype, and about this restaurant, we decided to head over to Footscray and check it out. We were expecting authentic Thai food. No such joy. The dishes here seem to be prepared with the western palette in mind. Overall we found the food very bland. Not authentic whatsoever. The service was nice and all, but the food really disappointing. Won't go back.

Looks expensive from the outside, but is very reasonably priced, and fantastic tasting food. Bold colours on the walls make for a cosy atmosphere. Excellent range of vegetarian options. Couldn't recommend it more.

Normally good service but disappointed on one occasion when I brought my whole family and they all received their entree and mains whilst I was still waiting for my entree. Won't go back for that reason.

One of the best food in Melbourne. They have been awarded for the best food by the Thai government. Very nice set up, friendly people and all the staff know you by name after you been there only a couple of times. A must place to visit if you are a Thai food lovers
