Taxiboat Restaurant & Bar has arrived at Westgarth in prime position opposite the cinema. Dark timbers, a polished concrete floor, aniseed walls and a magnificent Australian hard wood bar provide the setting. As you enter the main dining room which seats 30 take time to notice Asian lanterns from the ceiling and Vietnamese art adorning the walls. Head right to the private dining room for up to 20 featuring wooden boards and fireplace or head left to go through to the proposed courtyard space.

We had a great dinner at Taxi Boat last night, the food was fresh (not greasy), nice ambience and very friendly staff. We shared an entree, 2 mains, rice and dessert with drinks and cost $35 each, great value! Chicken Pad Thai and the sticky date pudding was especially nice! Will definitely return and recommend to others.

Food lovely, service friendly, wine list great.
Have been here twice so far and going back with more friends in a few days. The Thai Green Chicken Curry is yummy as is the Duck on a Bed of Heaven and the San Choi Bao. I would recommend this place and as a local I am very happy to have it there! The two courses for $22 during the week make it very good value.

I dined here with 18 others and we ordered the $35.00 banquet. Whilst the food was excellent there was very little of it for $35.00. The acoustics are poor probably due to the venue being designed originally for a purpose other than a restaurant. The look was funky but it was difficult to hear conversation. Staff were a little confused at times. I would definitely give this venue another try and recommend it to others. I would like to try something other than the banquet to gauge the size of the meals.

We live locally and love Taxiboat The staff know us, they know our wine and the food is always fresh and tasty. The dumplings are amazing as are the lemon grass chicken and calamari, we have taken many friends there and always recommend it.

We stumbled onto Taxiboat when going to a movie in Westgarth. We have now been a few times and have never beed disappointed. The dumplings are great and full of flavour, and the food is always fresh. Our favourite is the Schezuan Beef and the Fried Squid.

Dining at Taxiboat was quite a disappointment. I usually don't provide feedback in this forum, however, on this occasion I feel I must. A restaurant I had booked into, close by, had made an error in our reservation, so my party and I were stuck. We walked along High Street and came across Taxiboat. The place was quite empty, which is usually a sign, however, we looked at the menu and it seemed to have a nice variety.
Our first impression was good, we were welcomed and seated promptly. After ordering, everything turned bad, the food came out after a very long wait with some dishes cold. The mains came out very staggered and one dish was missed completely. Towards the end of our dinner, we felt as though the restaurant senior staff was eager to close up and leave, so we moved to another venue for an after dinner drink. Overall I felt the service was lacking and the food well below our expectations.

Absolutely superb food, friendly, unpretentious service, great ambience. Our favourite dishes so far, the dumplings are as good as the best yum cha houses, the lemongrass chicken is so sweet we ate too much and the sang choy bow was very tasty. The Vietnamese spring rolls were a winner too. We loved the place and were amazed that we could get a table on Friday nights, before the movie, without booking. We intend working our way through the whole menu particularly after reading some of the reviews.

This restaurant is just ok and definitely not as good as you are led to believe by some of the reviews. I took my wife and 13 year old daughter for a special occasion but was disappointed when there were several problems. My wife ordered a cocktail and after a long wait she received a different one than was ordered, she was too nice to return it.
I ordered the Wagyu beef and found it to lack flavour and the spring rolls were bland too. For what we paid, I would have expected more, seems there needs to be a bit of work on the food quality. There are many other great restaurants in Northcote and Fitzroy that I would prefer to visit.

Bland food. Had Singapore noodles which were bland/hardly any flavour one would expect from this dish. They need to go back to basics and include the spices meant for their asian dishes. Better meals else where and expensive for what you got.
