With an enviable view of the city skyline, the Taxi Dining Room establishes the setting for its inviting modern Australian cuisine. The restaurant's River Room is deftly tucked away from the main area, a perfect place for a more private dining.
The masterful modern Australian menu pays homage to Southeast Asian, Japanese and French cuisine. Entrées and mains of fresh seafood, beef and game stimulate one's taste buds. Desserts such as various mousse, parfait, sorbet and ice cream concoctions perfectly round up the dishes. If you're not into sweets, there are cheeses and dessert wines available by the glass.
Likewise important to an excellent menu is remarkable wine. The Taxi Dining Room boasts of being named the Best Restaurant List in Australia at The Gourmet Traveller and Fine Wine Partners 2008 Awards. The wine list is broad and deep, with an outstanding selection of sake available as well.

Not going back to Taxi – overpriced for underwhelming food.
Went on Friday night with a group of 10. When my father, who is allergic to onions, asked what on the menu didn’t have onions, he was told nothing and the kitchen staff was refusing to modify any of menu to suit a customer, we were advised that he wouldn’t be able to eat there. Absolutely disgusting, and it wasn’t until the restaurant senior staff had a word with the kitchen staff that he received a meal.
It was well over an hour and a half between our entrees being finished, and our mains being provided.
My quail entree was lovely, however, my pork was full of fat and near inedible, my husband’s rib-eye was extremely chewy. Desserts were lovely, but when I requested a hot chocolate with soy milk, they brought me a hot chocolate with skinny milk, and when I complained, the waiter attempted to walk away to leave me with it. I demanded a soy hot chocolate.
My husband and I go to fine dining restaurants regularly, we will not return to Taxi in the future, and I have no idea how they got their hats.

Disappointed on a recent trip to this favourably reviewed restaurant. Ordered the steak well done and could hardly believe it when it arrived sliced up in pieces and with a lot of fat on the meat. Hard to credit that the most expensive item on the menu would be served in such a way. All of the accompanying parts of the dish were very tasty. The other main was pork and it was good.
Desserts were a mixed bag with the chocolate plate being good although the chocolate souffle was undercooked. The other dessert was strawberry souffle and there was not much to it. As a result the meal was bad value for what we got.

We were disappointed by the service here, it was too quick! We had a 6pm reservation an understood we needed to be out at 8:15 (we booked late). That was fine but the food came out so quickly we could have been out by 7pm! We wanted to enjoy the evening and take our time. We requested a pause before dessert and they did oblige however the restaurant manager didn't take my mentioning this very well and just brushed me off saying how proud of his staff he is. The food is good, really enjoyed the belly pork entree although the Rabbit main course was average. to be honest the food at Transport Bar downstairs is much better value for money.

There is a reason why they dropped a hat: maybe it was the fact that they try hard to keep up with the quality, maybe it was value you pay for, but most of all, for me, it was the poor service I would not have expected even if they had dropped a hat.
Our designated waiter did not have a friendly bone in him. I seriously don't think he knows what a smile is. He talked over our heads when telling us the specials, passed the menu to patrons over other patrons' heads and would remain there until you eventually noticed it was your cue to take the menu. Maybe I have high expectations, maybe he was having a bad day, but that surely could not have been the way? Only consolation was that other wait staff were much nicer, and friendlier.
The food was good, but not amazing. The entrees fared better than the mains. Most of the dishes you got what you expected, not that there was a Wow factor with it. Given that there are many restaurants to taste in Melbourne, Taxi will have to work hard front and back of house to keep that hat, if they keep going the way they do.

Thank you, from the moment we sat down until leaving this was a wonderful night. The service was impeccable and so genuine. The sommeliers matched our wines very well and the food was very, very good. Highly recommend this restaurant.

We had a great meal at Taxi, this was maybe the third time we've been in for a meal and the service each time has been fantastic! We have really appreciated the attentive service and enjoyed the delicious food. Loved the duck!

I dined at Taxi Dining on Sunday night to celebrate my engagement with my new fiancee. When making the booking I was asked if it was a special occasion, and on learning what it was they assured us that they would reserve a great table etc for us.
After discretely confirming that the proposal had already been accepted on our arrival we were greeted at our exceptional table by 2 glasses of freshly poured Verve (free of charge). They provided a 4 seat table to ensure additional privacy overlooking southbank, Flinders St etc.
We opted for the 9 course degustation menu, all courses beautifully matched with wine, with the pork, duck and tuna standouts. The wait staff were all extremely knowledgeable, appropriately attentive and very friendly, which was a pleasent surprise.
All in all a wonderful meal, in a great restaurant with amazing views over Melbourne. We had a quick drink at Transit bar (just upstairs) after the meal which just topped off the night. The only issue I had was that I received a phone call confirming my booking that day which could have wrecked the surprise of the proposal if my girlfriend answered my phone instead.

Love this place, it gives me great night out with fabulous food which I would never cook at home and great views in wonderful surroundings. Always feel glamorous after being here.

Have dined at Taxi a few times now and can't wait to go back again. The food is amazing! The ambience creates a relaxing environment so you forget anything else and enjoy a truly memorable dining experience. Prices are above average but once you have enjoyed your evening you soon don't think anything of it.
The service is something the team should be so proud of. The host goes out of his way to please. The wine semillons are incredible knowledgeable and waiters are friendly and professional. I'm in the hospitality industry myself and we can be tough critics. I love coming to this restaurant. Totally recommended!

Visited Taxi on a recent trip to Melbourne with my partner on a recommendation of a Melbournian local.
We each ordered an entree and a main course. I had the rabbit - which I had never had before. Unfortunately I didn't really like it as it had an intense smokey flavour almost like bacon.
My partner had the Wagu main course which was presented on a wooden chopping board with a carving knife! Looked amazing and tasted even better - I had food envy.
I liked the ambience of the place with the open style kitchen but I think the tables are too close together for such an establishment a little more privacy would have been nice.
