Fairly decent Cantonese-style food, but I don't know if it was worth the 30+ min drive to Doncaster. I don't have many complaints, just these - the toilets are filthy, the Chinese and English menus are completely different, and I wish they would clean their fish tanks. Overall, not bad.

I have been eating here with my family past 20 years and it is still the best. I love it! We drive nearly 45 minutes from Near Monbulk just for lunch. Well worth it for the quality of food and price isn't bad too, although price is not an issue when you go there because it's the best. We have found the larger the group the cheaper it works out between everyone. We would spend between 3 adults roughly $30 each. It's worth every cent!

Seated in a doorway when restaurant was half full. Asked twice for drinks which were not received. Honey fried prawns soggy, fried rice excessively greasy and cantonese beef tasted like tomato sauce. Bill 30% more than the average. Never going back.

Haven't tried the yum cha but dinner at Tai Pan is one of the better Chinese dinners I've had. Been there twice now and been impressed both times. Ambience is nothing to write home about but it is definitely above average Chinese food at reasonable prices. Absolutely worth a visit.

The dessert taro sago is worth a try. Love the egg tart and the chicken feet.

I have visited Taipan a couple times for both the yum cha and a sit down evening meal. The yum would be one of the best I have had in Melbourne with great service although very crowded and noisy but that what you get when a place is very popular. The evening meal wasn't as good though I must say, the scallops were below par and the duck wasn't really that exciting. For yum cha you can't go past it but the sit down menu wasn't that exciting.

Good food, not too expensive, though rather crowded and noisy. Not better or worse than your average Yum Cha. If you don't mind the chatter and lack of space, I'd recommend you give it a try.

Crowded, really, really crowded both car park, entrance and restaurant but great. This is boisterous, noisy yum cha! Book ahead.

We did and while we knew the place to be popular we weren’t quite expecting that popular! But it was great once we sat down (though a bit squishy!) and food began appearing. Yum cha Sunday is a trolley service and I think we were a little bit out of the way but we still got enough food. The spring rolls were great, crispy and light and the almost bewildering supply of dumplings, prawn, pork, scallop, were great, though mostly steamed.

Pork and chicken buns were also served and these were both sweet and good. Desserts were custard tarts which appeared once and was ‘get in quick’ because they were delicious and vanished fast and other dishes had a more traditional flare, tofu with ginger soup for example.

Near the end of the meal the wait staff came around to ask if we wanted to order anything more specifically and this was an opportunity to top up on anything we hadn’t quite gotten enough of. So a few more spring rolls were heartily ordered and some scallops which vanished in short order.

Tea was naturally served with the meal and was refilled regularly. And the bill was promptly taken and calculated. Great value here too. I really enjoyed it though definitely not for the faint hearted or those wanting a quietly refined dining experience. This was chaotic yum cha that was noisy and boisterous but a great deal of fun.

Great value and best yum cha in town. Very crowded and noisy though, due to its popularity and difficult to get a table on weekends lunch if you don't book. Service could improve a bit more.
