Can't say anything about food because senior staff/waiter won't even take our booking. Reason: I first asked for a high chair for my 18mo son but he said they had no high chair. I then asked if I could bring the stroller inside, he turned me down saying that they're very busy around xmas time (this was one week before xmas) and would not give up space for my stroller. All in all, my need could not be accommodated and I should not dine there! Very kid-unfriendly.

Went there this weekday with my other half and a friend with an internet voucher to use. Voucher entitled 2 people to a bottle of wine, 2 free entrees and a steak, inclusive of salad and chips/ spud.

Service was really friendly, luckily nothing like what other diners experienced. Happily gave us extra bread when asked. The only fault was once the place got busy, they kinda forget things, like cutlery to eat the meals with.

Food itself was delicious. Entrees of baked mushrooms and feta and African beef sausage were really tasty. Steaks cooked to as requested and very tender. I ordered the blue cheese sauce which although was delicious, was much too overpowering. The South Yarra's is much nicer where it doesn't overtake the steak flavours. Didn't stay for sweets so can't comment.

I did find prices a bit steep. Normal steaks come with some chips or baked spud. Un-uniformed cuts of steaks on a cast iron platter. Sauce is an extra $4.50, eventhough it comes in a largish saucier. The beef sausage was $14.50 for one sausage. My partner and I mirrored each other's orders and our entrees came out for 1 serving instead of 2 had we ordered differently. That was a bit of a rip off!

We enjoyed the food and would go back again, but not in too much of a hurry. A basic meal (sausage, 300g eye fillet and sauce) would set you back $65 per person.

p/s Parking wasn't too bad there's a parking place around the corner. $5 flat rate for after 6pm.

Food was good but overpriced. Very suprised that sauce isn't included and you pay $4.50 for the pleasure of some mustard with the steak. Next to no ambience, the air conditioner was dripping on me, chairs were very uncomfortable. Service was woeful, water glasses not refilled unless asked, best service was the clearing of the plates and being the last patrons there we understood that was our cue to leave. Nil value, don't understand how they can charge so much, give next to no service, provide paper napkins, and give you a laminated menu! Much better value at your local RSL.

Used to be a fan of this place, but the last time I went changed that. Our group of 10 got there at 7 pm and ordered at 7:15. The two people who ordered entree's got them at 8:15 while the rest of the table sat and wondered where their steaks were. We asked if they'd be much longer and were told they were about 10 minutes way. Asked again 30 minutes later and were given the same response.

Steaks finally brought out at 9 pm, 1 hr 45 minutes after being ordered. Most people steaks were overcooked and lukewarm, as though they'd been sitting out in the kitchen for 20 minutes before being served. When paying this much for a steak, I don't expect to wait nearly 2 hours for it, I expect it cooked as I asked and I expect it hot. Squires failed on all accounts.

Complained about the wait and the quality of the service but they refused to adjust the bill. Were offered free coffee and desserts, but after being there for 2 hours already, nobody wanted to stick around any longer. Never going back to the city steak house, when there are so many other ones around to try.

Waitress threw basket of bread on table, shocking everyone on the table. Waited over 1 hour for the food. Told the waitress we had been waiting over an hour for the food and she rudely told me " you haven't been waiting over an hour, I checked your docket and it has been 55 minutes? No apology for the long wait whatsoever.

Asked the waitress if it was normal to wait up to an hour for the food considering the food at Squires Loft South Yarra usually arrives within 30 minutes. Waitress rudely tells me I should not compare the 2 as they are not the same company.
Told waitress not to be so rude considering she is dealing with customers and we are a customer. Waitress tells us to treat her with respect? Wow!

Stay away from this place, rude waitresses, long wait for the food, steaks a lower quality than somewhere else at South Yarra.

I have been here a few times now. The experience is very consistent and they obviously have the formula down pat. But can't say the food or the restaurant itself wows me. It's probably exactly what you expect from a mid market steakhouse, lots of choices of steak, the standard array of accompanying sauces, vegies and salad.

The meat is good and cooked as ordered, wine list has something for everyone. The room is dated and noisey so do not go expecting an intimate ambience. If you feel like a steak but don't want to break the bank, this is probably a reasonable option.

Bread was not served, when asked, we were told "it's in the oven" - It never came! The steaks were well cooked as ordered. The bill came to $142 for the 3 of us. After we had put in $150, it took an eternity for the change to return although we were wanting just the receipt for tax purposes. Conclusion: Poor waiting service with good chefs.

A really great steak house. Have been twice for business lunches (sat downstairs) and both times had the eye fillet which was melt in your mouth good! Tried both the BBQ and mushroom sauces and both have been excellent. Service was good and ambience is relaxed. A little pricey, but I look forward to bringing friends here in the future.

Fantastic Steakhouse. Steaks are great with a wonderful selection of wines.

You got to try Rare the second steakhouse for an excellent dining experience
