I went to this restaurant a few years back and had a great time. I remember it like old snug Italian restaurant with a crackling fireplace, great food and fancy white cloth laden tables. Going back now I was really disappointed. It was more of a cafe with seemingly hapazard green tables and chairs (no tablecloths) seemingly chucked into the main room.
Waiting 1/2 an hour for a burger and being able to hear every other patron in there really didn't make for a good time. I was disappointed as I was looking forward to some real ambience. Next time I will go elsewhere.

Originally built in the late 1870s by George Stebbing, referred to as a "noted pioneer builder" by Marguerite Marshall in her new book, "Nillumbik Now and Then". The original building was rebuilt on its present site by the Eltham Shire about 100 metres away from its original site on Main Road Eltham. Shillinglaw Cottage retains its original charm and shows off a rustic character that would have been much loved by the first family to live in it after its completion nearly 130 years ago.

Indoor or outdoor settings, depending on the weather, you are assured of a relaxing and satisfying experience. Open for Breakfast, Lunch, Morning and Afternoon Teas, a Glass of Wine or simply the Best Hot Chocolate in Town. Friendly and efficient service, in delightful and natural surrounds. What more could you ask for?

I have eaten here many times, my husband and I come here for our anniversary, and we have also brought along friends at different times. The food is superb and leaves your taste buds wanting more. If it's fine food you are looking for then look no further, this place is it.

Awesome breakfasts. Outside area for eating but unshaded and people with prams are asked to sit outside.
