The location used to be an undergarments factory, hence the name Seamstress. At Seamstress Restaurant, expect no karaoke singing. The ambience is relaxed and naturally cool, similar to the jazz and blues clubs of another time. The décor is modern, with the colourful kimonos as a nod to the roots of its cuisine.
Seamstress’ menu is all about merging traditional pan-Asian ingredients with modern kitchen methods. The emphasis is on shared dining, savoured in a chill yet animated social setting. Since sharing is encouraged, Seamstress is a great place to take your family or a group of friends. You can pair dinner choices of whatever size with drinks from the cocktail bar. Popular treats include steamed scallops, roasted spiced nuts, barbecue duck pancakes and Malay corn fritters.

I think this is my favourite venue in the city. The floors practically burst with personality, and the staff are always eager to give you the lowdown on what each room was, and is designed to be.
I think the food has been better in the past, which isn't to say it isn't lacking a punch now, more that it has stepped back from chefs hat aspirant to comfortable 14.
Service is great, but I feel sorry for the staff member running food up and down stairs all night!

Every floor has a different story. Love the food and drinks and good hang out place for me and my mates.

Made a booking 3 weeks in advance for a Birthday celebration with a small group only to be called 2 days before the event and told that we cannot have our booking. Spoke to a senior staff who really wasn't interested in talking to me other than to offer a token $50 voucher which had to be used within a month.
The place may have good food but I'll never know, if that is their attitude to customer service! And looking at other reviews, it appears that poor customer service in house isn't much better! So many great places to eat in Melbourne, don't bother giving these clowns your money!

Went to this restaurant with a group a couple of months ago and loved it. But back again this week and found the food had gone downhill a bit. The waitress was abrupt and didn't listen to what we asked for. We then spent the rest of the night trying to get what we wanted. No apology. Then finally got booted out for the next sitting while people were still drinking coffee. Disappointing in the end.

Annoying, officious, intrusive service from a waitress that was persistently trying to upsell. Well presented dishes, but tiny portions that offer poor value for money. I had some undercooked chicken that was blood red throughout. The service was over-the-top, until the raw chicken was pointed out, it then became non-existent. No apology was made.
The basement is a cool cellar hangout but the low cheap timber bench seats are really uncomfortable and completely impractical. Similar dishes are available in Chinatown proper for a third of the price, not as well presented, quiet, cool an ambience though. The place is trying to be a fine classy dining establishment but fails, reminding me of a tall bleached blonde with a fur coat and no knickers.

This restaurant has seriously gone down hill in the past few months. It used to be our favorite, however, since it has been bought by the new owner there isn't a hint of consistency to the food or cocktails.

Found this restaurant over priced, small portions and food to be tasteless or it had a wacky mix of spices that made you believe that the kitchen staff just through it into the dish and had no idea what on earth he was doing. We left still hungry and also out of pocket cost $160 per head for one main dish and one dessert and one glass of red wine. This was definitely one of the worst restaurant food we had tasted for a long time, very disappointed and would not recommend this place to anyone!

This is our regurlar Tuesday night spot. We start with the cocktails upstairs which are delicious! The bartenders are really knowledgeable about cocktails and quite happily tell you all about it. We usually have bar food (corn fritters are the best) but last week we ventured down the restaurant and had the best sticky saucy pork and 5 spice quail! Our favorite place just got a better!

Was here on 12 February for a first sitting and the food was deee-licious. I would recommend the scallops if you like them bursting with delicate flavour and a great texture. Agree that the food is asian fusion and a totally great restaurant to have a table for two or a get-together. Service was exemplary.

What a great little place. Came here with 3 of my mates, all of us not having been there before. Grub was yummy, very very yummy, you won't be disappointed. The interior is fantastic and the service was top tier and friendly. Seamstress is versatile with the kind of occasion you can celebrate there, don't go here just casually a nice place to celebrate an event.
Be careful, there are 2 sessions and this is fairly strictly held to, so much so we weren't able to order desserts because we needed to vacate for the next session to start! So get there on time and don't dawdle with the order, like we did. Remember to bring your Entertainment card!
