Well after reading the recent reviews my friend and I decided to try Satay Anika, all sounded so positive. Well can't complain about the service nor the ambience, now crunch time! The value for money others have mentioned does not exist. Portions are very small, the menu actually states the "take-away meals are larger", yes they probably are larger but I suspect they are normal size take-away containers which translates to "you get smaller than normal servces if you eat in" - we started with a mixed entree for two (4 miniscule satays chicken and a beef, 2 mini spring roll and 1 small 3" lobak with a sprinkling of pickled vegi) this was for two and cost $14.20.

Not knowing how big the serves would be (particularly after all the hype about value for money we decided to order 1 curry with rice and a serve of roti, we ordered what our host described as their special and most sought after dish, a chicken curry with green peppercorns. When it arrived we shared the eight pieces of chicken, 3 pieces of capsicum, 4 chip sizes pieces of potato, 10 peas and 4 tablespoons of curry sauce (which incidentally did not have any visible peppercorn) between us with the rice and roti.

The curry was nothing more than a normal green curry (only weaker in flavour). When I questioned the host about the peppercorns (thinking she gave us the wrong dish) she said they were in the sauce as a "ground ingredient". Needless to say we were very disappointed, we cut our losses at that (just under $40, which did include Jasmine tea) and decided to complete our dinner with a nice wood fired pizza.

If you want to compare value for money menu listing many different/exclusive dishes and you are in the area (Elsternwick) try Kotaraya (Malaysian, Chinese and Thai menu) - ask for Johnny or Michael and tell them Eddie recommended it, will need to book as it is so popular with the locals. Cheers Ed

Love the food - authentic west coast peninsula Malaysian (Tony is from Batu Pahat), service is good, prices are very reasonable, nice feel to the place. Love it.

A great Malaysian food experience. The sambal vegetable dishes are very tasty as is the sampang catch hotpot. Try the special yellow tea which is a very different taste to the normal chinese teas which are on offer.

Food was brilliant. Can thoroughly recommend Beef Rendang, Anikaa Chicken and Beef in Black Bean sauce.

I have been visiting this restaurant now for over 10 years. If you enjoy excellent personal service and great food at very reasonable prices you won't be disappointed.

Loved it from my first plate of fried kway teow! Even went back the same week with hubby and toddler and tried other things. All yummy. Staff were friendly and very tolerant of my noisy little one. Not close to where I live, but will try and get there as often as I can.

Great little place. It has one of the best satays in Melbourne. They are moist and full of flavour. I have been to this restaurant for many years and is never bored of the food. Great value for money too.

Pleasantly surprised by this quaint little restaurant. Tony was a great host, food is excellent and exceptional value for money. Will definitely come again.

We were the last customers one Saturday night. Food was ok but the staff waited by our tables and as we put our cutlery down, they picked it up. Without asking they took our plates away. If they did not want to serve us, they should not have taken our orders. It was obvious that the whole team wanted to go home early. Very upsetting as we had overseas guests and we were frequent customers of the business.
