Republica’s meaning “for the people”, is Melbourne’s only bar and restaurant on the sand. With The Courtyard impressively holding up to 900 people on any given day, it is a sure way to spend your summer nights with regular drink specials and a tapas and specials menu to sink your teeth into.
Republica has a fresh and tantalising menu to tame your taste buds. Head chef Matthew Dawson started his training at the Commercial Club in Albury. After completing a year of his apprenticeship he moved to the Terminus Hotel, a renowned gastro-pub in the same town, where his training was fast-tracked and he became the Head Chef within two years. After stints in some of Victoria's Best wine regions and the Stokehouse, Matt created Republica with his wife and brother in law.
The unique and versatile space of Republica is built to cater for a variety of events from weddings to parties, corporate functions and private dining experiences.
Overlooking the sand at the historic Sea Baths complex, the rooftop can be booked via Republica for those functions and events that want to be long remembered. Overlooking Port Phillip Bay, the rooftop has possibly the best view of the water in Melbourn

What an amazing venue, most incredible views to sit and enjoy a drink or two and some amazing food. The staff were friendly and very attentive.

So not happy just spent $60.00 to walk away hungry and unsatisfied. Seafood platter was an overpriced joke. Management really should add diversity and value for money to the menu.

It was ace we had 9 people come to dinner and all our meals came out at the same time (don't you hate it when your friends get there meal and you are starving and your takes another 10 minutes). The staff were very friendly and made us very welcome. Had a silly chat with us and took the empty glasses away from the table.

Beautiful place! I went and visited Republica with a group of friends last friday night. All the staff were accommodating and found us a spot out in the courtyard in front of the band. The food was great to share and the cocktails were to die for.

Service was terrible. When paying 30 for a main it's unacceptable to ask customers to get cutlery and napkins by themself and carry drinks to table. Especially when the staff wasn't busy at all.
Food was overpriced and tasteless. We had the scallop, the barramundi and I had the seafood tagliatelle. My family did enjoy their meal a lot, but they were not the one to pay for it, and they haven't really tried how good quality Australian seafood is. I have and that was one of the worst meals I ever had in Australia.
Beautiful location, amazing at sunset. Had a pretty awesome pimm's cup. Friendly bartender. Fair wine list. Sooo sort out the food. And start giving service above the mac d level.

I'm amazed other reviewers have said how good the food is. The food is atrocious and overpriced. I was part of a lunch for 10 and not one person enjoyed their meal. However, it's all about the location and a great spot to sit outside and have a drink and that's it.

Don't visit this place with a big group! Bar staff will refuse drinks when one of your group members is 'drunk'. So it's ok to take $1000 and then refuse drinks to everybody, even people who are obviously not intoxicated. Shame on the manager who couldn't be bothered taking the time to talk. Be warned, it's the last thing you want on a Xmas party.

This place is a rare find. The location and atmosphere is unbelievable. Food is always great, good value and interesting. I have taken many international guests there and they all wish that they had a place like this in their town. This place always has something happening.

On a perfect Sunday afternoon (very rare in Melbourne) my wife and I decided a couple of casual drinks after a walk along the beach would be in order and, perhaps, a bite to eat. We were shown inside but staff that appeared distracted and a little unhappy at being disturbed by such requests as "Can we have a table and do you have a menu ?".
The menu looked great and I ordered the tortellini whilst my wife ordered the pork belly with with caramelised apple. After a 45 minutes wait in which the staff ignored our table and the two tables next to us, our meals arrived.
The 5 pieces of tortellini in a small serving of bland and basic sauce was a joke. The pork belly was approximately 3 inches long and served with a piece of apple which fit perfectly on our tea spoon. I actually asked the staff if they had made a mistake and had we had been served entree size, only to be told, "No sir, that is the size at top restaurants, this is not McDonalds".
After I eventually put my indignation back in the closet, I tried the food only to confirm that the lack of size was only bettered by the lack of taste and skill in the dish. Bland, chewy and undercooked. The pork belly was nice and cooked well, but was so small and lacked any dressing or side we may has well been at McDonalds.
We immediately left our table and went to pay only to be told by the same waitress "Did you enjoy your meal ? and then laughing. It would appear that Republica trades on its location and location alone. This is not a top restaurants but should be viewed as a place for a drink before or after you have been to a great place to eat.
Having travelled extensively and dined at some great "top" restaurants, I would recommend avoiding Republica at all cost until there is a significant change of management and culture.

I went here on their monday pizza happy hour (5-7 pm) and enjoyed a yummy pizza for $5 overlooking the beach while the sun went down. Can't complain with the value or quality at that price. Although I would have been slightly disappointed with serving size at the full normal price ($18-20) but I guess you're paying a little for the location.
Our table also ordered a pitcher of sangria and a pitcher of zombie cocktail, which were both fairly priced for the amount we received. Cheaper than buying individual cocktails. In sum, a great place to go, particularly if you do your homework first and find out when their specials are on.
