I live locally but cannot help keep coming back to Replete despite how busy it gets for weekend breakfasts at around 9-10 am and the fact that it's not unusual to have to wait to get a table (bookings are not taken on weekends). Replete is tiny too, there is a front area and back area and both are rather squeezy but I can tell you now, it's worth it.
Service standards are always high in spite of how busy it gets and how squashed the place is. In terms of its food, Replete use high-quality fresh ingredients such as Irrewarra sourdough and Istra bacon and Meredith goats cheese. My personal favourite is the ricotta hotcakes, which come out in a plump stack topped with lemon curd, fresh strawberries and coulis. The orange juice comes freshly squeezed in a cute glass bottle. They also provide gluten free options.
You can also grab a take home pack from the fridge, such as mini gourmet pies or vegetable lasagne, or purchase something from their own range of gourmet treats such as apricot and chocolate almond bread. Also look on the top of the counter as they are often wonderful in-house treats such as rich brownies, afghans or lolly-topped cupcakes. Replete offer breakfast and lunch. I haven't been for lunch but breakfast is sensational.
Everything was nice at Replete. Good coffee, great bircher muesli with strawberries, quick service and reasonable prices. Next time I will go there a bit hungrier though as the menu looks excellent! The cafe was full at 9:00am for a midweek breakfast so it is probably best to book a table.
I live outside Australia and everytime I come to Melbourne, I grab the chance to pop in to Replete for breakfast and it never fails to disappoint. The highly-vaunted ricotta and strawberry hotcakes are still delicious, but my personal favourite is the bagna cauda eggs - two poached eggs and ratatouille on toasted bread and smothered in a rich creamy anchovy sauce. Coffee and freshly-squeezed orange juice are exemplary. Keep it up!
