I initially walked past Red Box last Sunday nursing a hangover, from two shops away on Sydney Rd I could smell the coffee being grounded, the closer I got to the cafe, the more heavenly scents of food grew greater. I said to myself I could not walk past this place without going in.

I sat at this massive table (old railway sleepers I think? It was a big night) on the table sat all the newspapers, clean cutlery, clean salt and pepper dispensers (the little things) I felt like I was at home automatically. The service was great without being over the top and intrusive. I ordered a strong latte which came to me with the milk perfectly steamed and to the correct temp.

I had to order something, I asked the right person, the man behind the counter in the check pants with the blue and white strip apron. I introduce myself, I find out his name is Steve and he is the owner of the cafe, when I asked whats good for breakfast he said "leave it to me".

Well within 15 minutes I had this plate full of scrambled eggs, char grilled roma tomatoes, homemade baked beans with a thick tomato sauce with just the right amount of chilli, crispy bacon, hash browns (house made) fried crispy and perfectly golden brown, all on top of freshly baked bread, thickly sliced and toasted to perfection on the char grill.

Steve came over after I finished what I thought was breakfast/lunch and dinner all rolled into one. He asked me what I thought? All I could muster from what I think was the best breakfast I have ever had was two thumbs up. In the words of Molly Meldrum "Do yourselves a favour and get down there" Oh I forgot to mention, Price........ You could afford to eat there 5 times a week, I think the whole bill cost me $24.00 for 1x latte 1x breakfast for 10 people on 1 plate and 1x OJ.

Best Burgers in Brunswick! Lovely friendly staff, they have extended the courtyard which is great.

This cafe used to do dinners, however, they have stopped for over a year now. It is easy to understand why after our recent visit to this cafe. Our order was misplaced and 2 additional orders received their food before us, one of which had ordered after they had discovered their mistake with our order. The restaurant was not busy.

Upon complaining on settling the bill, the senior staff just said rather arrogantly that "these things happen. What do you expect me to do?". I suspect that this response is due to the person behind the counter having no vested interest in the business. I will never go there again.

Good food, but it is more enjoyable as a place to relax. The food is ok, but inconsistent, I've ordered the same meal 3 times and had vastly different experiences. But I have been back since, and that's because you can read the paper (even a broadsheet!) in comfort and get off to a slow start to the day!

Fantastic Breakfast, perfect for a hangover! Cute courtyard at the back and quite friendly staff, will go back for sure.

Great breakfast and lunch cafe with tempting cakes and biscuits for coffee. Good little courtyard out the back for sunny days with a cold glass of wine and pasta, perfect. Give the 'Redbox' brekky a go, you won't be disappointed.

The perfect place to enjoy breakfast, plenty of papers to read, great coffee and yummy food. The chutney was divine! The place for breakfast in the Brunswick/ Sydney Road area.
