I am a Malaysian residing in Melbourne and I have been going to this restaurant for years. Let me be honest in saying the place does offer some decent Australian-Malaysian dishes in the menu, although sad to say, the taste quality do vary from visit to visit.

I agree with some of the poor reviews I've read on customer service as I often find the floor manager 'M', overly loud and abusive to staff. It's poor etiquette it reflects badly on the restaurant.

Went there to take away last week, been waiting for over 30min, and still waiting.
I complain to teh staff, 5 more min that all I am willing to wait or else I want to cancel the order.

After waiting for nearly 40min it finally ready. The staffs there are awful, attitute, not patient (keep pushing to take order and keep asking "what do you want"). Was hoping the food will be good, but end up the quality is like what we get from the foodcourt.
Will I go back or recognize? Not a chance.

Been going to Rasa M for 13 years. Their food is reliably delicious and plentiful, and staff are always friendly and fun.

We so enjoy the food that we visit three to four times a month. Maggie is chatty, friendly, and best of all, makes a point of remembering your name, your favourite foods and other little things that make you 'special'. Maggie is no doubt a colourful character which makes our experience even brighter.

The food is absolute value for money for our weekly dine-out, but admittedly there are more expensive, up market, tableclothed restaurants waiting to take your additional dollars for that once in a blue moon special dinner event. So all in all, we are happy to travel 20 - 25 minutes for what we know will be a good feed and a chuckle.

I love the food at Rasa Malaya, however, it's not somewhere to go if you're looking for a really nice ambience. The staff aren't the greatest especially with the loud, angry senior staff but they do their job. It is a pretty cosy place though.

The food was not the greatest. Curry laksa was dismal and a real disappointment. There was no ambience at all, the place needs a makeover. Service was pathetic, the waitress was discriminating her own kind (Malaysian) and overly friendly and polite to Caucasians whilst treating Asians as 2nd class citizens. Price of the dishes were expensive and no value for money. Definitely a no no!

The food is average but the service is shocking. It is not the service that ordinary Australian can take. It cancels out the goodness of the food. The rudeness, loudness, unprofessional way of 'greeting' customers, puts a lot of people off. I used to walk into it with the full house, lunch or dinner, however, haven't been back for almost two years because of the service. We went there again for lunch the other day, there were only two of us. What a shame that this person has attracted so much criticism and put so many customers off.

Brilliant food and excellent value. The Calamari was very tasty, the Rockling is something to die for and the standard is set with the Roti Canai. A friend and I shared these dishes all in one evening. We're both going back.

The food is nice but Maggie's service is awful. Too loud, not professional and rude!
If she does not work there, I'll recommend people to dine at Rasa Malaya.
