A very cool and laid-back store front with a courtyard at the back of the store. It has a very homely feel to it - feels like my first time being welcome into an Australian family home, with the boys inviting me to the back of their courtyard to have a beer under the sun on a cool winter afternoon.

The ginger bread was excellent on its own. The maple butter, while unique in flavor, did not quite hold up too well in my palate. The strong aged-like buttery flavor was a little overpowering. It is unfortunate that I have not learnt to appreciate the flavors of good quality butter.

Re-creating the crumbed coddled egg was a skill I appreciated in this dish. While the semi cooked egg was still delicate, the chef had to crumb its surface before gently placing it into a deep fryer for a minute (to avoid overcooking the egg). Truly amazing.

The charred black pudding, dipped with the anchovy cream-like sauce… in one word, heavenly. I loved them so mcuh that I found myself cutting the pudding into smaller pieces so I could savor each piece in my own luxury.

If you don't mind the wait, this is worth waiting for. Coffee is excellent and some of the food left field but great. Service is attentive. A very busy cafe but excellent overall.

Had a lovely breakfast at a place called Pope Joan at East Brunswick . We sat inside because it was a cold day however there is seating outside in the courtyard as well. Was shown to a seat and immediately given a menu and ordered coffees which arrived quickly and were fantastic!

The menu looked very inventive. I chose the baked eggs with smoked onion and beetroot chard served with toast,(I wasn't real keen on the beetroot there was a bit too much) my friends had boiled eggs, soldiers, bacon bits,herb salt, and the not so full English breakfast (Melbourne pantry bacon, Cumberland sausage, baked beans, scrambled eggs) no complaints from them. After that we all shared the warm gingerbread.

Baked eggs with beetroot. Would definitely go back again, the food and service was good and it has a nice relaxed atmosphere, (there were a few mums and bubs) also there is parking across the road.

Channels 1930's British cooking with organic and sustainable practices. Love the Kedgeree, the use of smoked eel, coddled eggs. Not cheap, but the thoughtfulness and approach to the dishes with quality hand-sourced products (some grown in the garden out the back) is well worth the price. Coffee is Allpress, and service has been over 15+ visits always professional. Only beef is its difficult to get a park!

A long way off from home to get there for brunch but luckily got a place pretty quickly because otherwise would not know alternative breakfast place around there. Three of us sort of shared the corned beef bubble 'n' squeak with celeriac remoulade, soft boiled eggs with soldiers and baconbits and herbed salt and the 3rd dish ordered was the smoke salmon and cheese sandwich. Bubble n squeak was unanimously voted the best, next was the sandwich and the cardinal sin was the soft boiled eggs was almost hard boiled. My friend doused everything on his plate with their home made tomato chutney and almost emptied the whole bottle.
