I made a booking for 18 on a Saturday night in the cafe and the staff and meals were fantastic! The staff were friendly, accommodating and professional, nothing was too much trouble. Even though it was a large booking, we were not forced into a set menu, however, some of us opted into the banquet which was great value.

The food was fresh and cooked to perfection. The ambience is lovely with an open fire and the view out over the bay creating the perfect winter dining option. We'll definitely return! Dined on: 07 May 2011.

From the moment of arrival, we were disappointed. We were given a pot of English breakfast with no sugar or milk, but it was initially dismissed as an oversight.
Before all of our orders were taken, half our menus were taken away for another table. A restaurant only a quarter full and they don't have enough menus? Our first 3 meals were delivered, two of the three were wrong. 2 more meals delivered - one wrong. After 20 minutes, only 3 meals were complete, one was missing half the order, one meal still to come.

Mean while, 4 other tables were served their meals which were ordered well after ours. 5 minutes, later I tried to cancel the last meal, my only response was "I suppose". (This particular waiter, we were all convinced, was either recovering from the previous night or still heavily inebriated, his breath, appearance and demeanour were a dead giveaway).

Furious, we were forced to share our 4 meals between 5 people. 5 minutes after that, the final meal arrived, even though I had requested it to be cancelled.
Being at the peak of winter we chose to sit indoors, but for reasons beyond our imagining, the waiter decided to open the doors! When it came time to settle the bill, it was all wrong, so we had to spend more time fixing it up, when all we wanted to do was get away from the apalling restaurant.

We eagerly left, with no intention of ever returning, as it was quite clear they were not interested in any level of customer satisfaction.

Undoubtedly I experienced the WORST New Years Eve of my life at One Fitzroy Street. It’s poorly organised, unprofessional service and as one waitress aptly commented to our repeated requests for an update on the progress of the meal. 'It is chaos in the kitchen' and that about set the tone for the evening.

Despite buying a ticket months in advance for this advertised event and paying $190 a head, NO canapés were provided upon arrival as advertised. Drink orders were initially slow and we were told to hurriedly take our seats so that food orders could be taken. Despite the apparent hurry, our entree did not arrive until approximately 11.15pm and some, but not all, of the main meals arrived at midnight during the fireworks!! 4 hours after we had arrived! To my knowledge dessert was never brought out to the table at all. Probably it was because a number of people at our table had left in disgust at this point.

The 'entertainment' (and I use that word loosely) was fairly intoxicated by the time proceedings got under way and would have been more at home (and more welcome) in his local RSL. In the absence of food and on a very hot day (40C and the air-conditioning was not working at One Fitzroy St) alcohol was the only thing left readily available on side tables. This was extremely irresponsible service of alcohol in my opinion and all of these events ultimately led to most of our party leaving well before the designated finishing time.

Needless to say a number of people had to leave and seek out alternative sources of food on their way home. Our repeated attempts to contact management and discuss our concerns the following day were unanswered.
